big change
I do about a 50% water change once every 1 to 2 months in my 50 gallon tank, and even less in my goldfish barrel. All my fish seem just fine with this. I have my tanks in our basement where there is only cold water, so whenever I do water changes, it takes the whole day. Filling the tank up takes ...

Research Paper
In my English class we have to write a 7-9 page, double spaced research paper. Everyone in my class picked controversial topics related to sports or drugs. I decided to do mine on Synodontis. The teacher said it would be easier to write about a controversial topic, but I didn't want to. I am ...

What do you think the lowest pH is that a fish can live in? 6? Maybe 5.5? What about 3? Yep, it's true. There is a fish that lives in water with a pH of 3. It is also the worlds smallest fish. You can read about it at http://www.comcast.net/news/science/index.jsp?cat=SCIENCE&fn=/2006/01/25/311616 ...

That is so funny! My pleco is susposed to grow to be a monster like that. He has already eaten one of my snails alive when he was only 4 inches long. I can't imagine what he'll do when he is a foot long! I hope he doesn't attack me. I'll have to start carrying cucumbers in my pocket. You ...

I've heard that backgrounds make the fish feel more secure. They will come out of hiding more often if they can't see things moving all around them.

I have always wondered that too. From what I've heard ich is found in every aquarium. How is it possible that a fish can get ich if it has been kept in pure filtered water for it's whole life. Does this mean there is ich living in our well water?

I personally wouldn't put fish in one gallon jars, but that's just me. :D Neons do better longer aquariums because they like to zip across the tank. Guppies might be better for a small tank like that, until they have babies. You could use the tank to keep snails in, seeing that they die in your ...

My grandma has a BN that comes up against the front aquarium glass and waits for my grandma to "pet" it through the glass. He will turn around every few seconds so my grandma can "pet" his other side. However, only my grandma (and sometimes I) can do this as he is too shy to come to others. He ...

I had a hypostomus living with my two goldfish for a year (the pleco stayed in my 50 gallon and the goldfish got relocated to their own tank for eating my plants). Since I don't know where my snails came from, I can't be sure, but I think they are coldwater snails. They do great in my coldwater goldfish tank. Both me and Silent Doh wouldn't recomend this person get any more fish. Her 10 gallon has at least 200 baloon molly fry and one oto. Natural environment
You probably don't need substrate, but it is a good idea to have it. In my opinion the tank should be like their natural environment especially if you want to breed them. It would be a good idea to give them caves to hide in. You might want to think about adding plants. They aren't necessary but ...

However, the picture at the store didn't look like a decorus, young or adult. It could be they had the wrong picture with the name.

orange and black catfish
Yesterday when I was at Petsmart I saw some interesting looking catfish hiding under a rock. They were a light orange with a few black bands across their body. Their face, however, was spotted with small black speckles. Their face seemed to be a lighter peach color. When I asked what they were, the ...
