Should I move my Megalodoras uranoscopus to a grow out tank?

Hey guys, I have a 125g mostly consisting of catfish and bichirs. I've had my Irwini since May and I really haven't noticed much growth from him yet. I target feed him when I can but usually a tankmate grabs the food. I try to primarily feed while the lights are on and then drop some in about an ...

Sounds good. Hopefully they will get their tailors soon, not like I ever see them though.

Legit Synodontis decorus?

It appears to be so to me, but I'm not an expert. In the specimen tank pics they were around 2". In the tank pics they are around 2.5 -2.75".

Looking for suggestions..

I'm in the process of updating my Oddball tank and I would like to add 1-2 plecos. I'd prefer one with orange or red on the fins. If they aren't very shy that would be a plus. Must get along with other "semi" aggressive fish, but aggression is not a big issue in this tank. Ideal size would be 10-14 ...

Ok, yes that's it. I was hoping he would get a little larger but it should do nicely.

Just picked this guy up, can someone tell me which syno it is? I can't seem to find one that matches in the cat-e-log..

Help with selection a pleco

Hey guys / gals..

I need some help deciding on a pleco.. I have narrowed it down to 3 possibilities. L024, L025 or L091. The tank will most likely only have one more tank mate which would be a Erythrinus erythrinus (Red Wolf Fish). I'm kind of leaning towards the L091 because it's colors would ...

Don't get me wrong, I want it to be as healthy as it can be, although I would be interested if any "natural" foods helped with making his colors brighter.

Ah sorry bout that, didn't see where it said Pleco's.

I've only had him a few days but I constantly hear about pleco's losing their color when they reach adult hood. Just trying to prevent this if it were to happen.

Foods that bring out coloration?

Are there any foods (veggies / fruit / etc..) that will bring out the coloration in plecos? My newly acquired pleco has red stripes but they are semi faint, I would love to get these bright red and ensure that it does not lose them on the journey to adult hood. Any ideas?

Well it might be a common afterall. I did some searching and found this site. Look at the pic to the right, it has similar yet faint red markings. Even if it is a common it's the best looking common I have seen.

That is a big difference in the Juvie and adult, I know they changed but that is dramatic.

Mine is a Juvie, only 3.5". So I guess I'm going to need to wait till it becomes an adult before I can figure out what it is.

Hey thanks for the reply, I looked at those pics and I did not see one that looks like it, or at least to me it doesn't look like it. I only saw two with any type of red on them and they had a totally different pattern.

Here is a better view of the dorsal fin.

Hey everyone, just picked up this little guy at the LFS, they didn't know what it was so they told me $3.99. Couldn't pass it up in case it's a good find. It's currently ~3.5". Here is the pic. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Anyway, back to the question at hand. I need ...

I looked all over the web and the max reported size (that I could find) is 20" in the wild. 98% of the species profile pages I visited said up to 12" in captivity, while the others said up to 16" in the wild and generally smaller in captivity.

Personally I would love for my Senegalus's to reach 16 ...

You're in for a nasty shock....

there is NO Bichir that maxes out at 12"; even the smallest species will reach 40-45 cm or so (16-18") with proper care.
wich means not a stunted growth.

those smallest Bichirs are pretty hard to find, some come from countries with a war going on, others from ...

I already have a chocolate in my tank and he is ok although he doesn't really fit the look of what I want. The Royal Farlowella has the look I want but yes I do not want them to be hasled by the bichirs.

BTW.. the bichir's I plan on keeping will max out at 12-13" so I figure any pleco over 4 ...

Help me pic my next Algae eater

I'm looking for an algae eater preferably dark brownish and tough looking. It needs to look "prehistoric" and an armor look would be nice. I'm putting together a bichir tank and plan on using prehistoric looking cats / pleco's to go with the theme. I already have two Marbled Raphael's, just need an ...

Yep, it's a Amblydoras hancockii, oddly enough I figured out the scientific name before I knew it was a marbled raphael. Thanks to the cat-elog.

I guess I'm more so proud of my little fellows so figured I'd post a pic of them. :D

Pics of my little marbled raphael.

I picked up two of these from the LFS on Saturday. I came to find out they are not real common which I find amazing because my LFS never has any unique fish. Either way here is a pic of one of them. They are roughly 2.75" long and are kept with my two 6" bichirs, 8" Synodontis Eupterus, and a couple ...
