Re: Breeding L255

I'm not sure of the adult size of L255 but I make oak caves with a 1.25" (32 mm)
diameter hole 5"- 6" (130 - 150 mm) deep for most suckermouth catfish.

Re: L204 Breeding

Hobbyists typically buy 2"- 3" L204 not realizing how large they get. The Cat-eLog says 5.1" but I recall my buddy saying his breeders are more in the 5" - 6" range, either way, the male needs to trap the female inside the cave so the cave must fit 2 adult fish so even at 5", I would recommend a 10 ...

Re: L204 Breeding

Mature L204 need a large cave preferably wood with a hole at least 3"-4"
(8 - 10 cm) in diameter and a depth of about 10" (25 cm).

Re: Breeding L255

You need to make some wooden caves. Here in the USA we use Red Oak,
however, I'm not sure what types of wood are available to you in India.

Re: Wanted: NON Common Ancistrus

I am looking for a few ancistrus to add to a tank. They will be the spotlight fish, so I would prefer them to be along wild lines rather than the commonly bred ones. No Green Dragons, No Red Marbles, No Reds, No Albinos, nothing like those. The only exception would be some Blue Eyes, I would be ...

Re: L-088

The seam on the L338 has a definite yellow tint and the smaller fry have spots
to begin with and also have an overall red body tint until around 1.25" (3 cm).
A photo of L088 would be great as a direct comparison to L338.

Re: Undergravel Filtration?

And the only reason I mentioned a centralized system is because I've been there, done that, and it was a total disaster when it came to disease and parasite control. A circulating pump in a single tank is not a problem at all and I personally prefer current in my tanks, however, a couple of my ...

Re: Undergravel Filtration?

Well it's certainly possible to remove and replace the sand with gravel (with or without an undergravel filter) because I've done it several times. The best tool to remove sand is a kid's plastic toy shovel that is flat. I confiscated my son's years ago, and although he was a bit upset at the time ...

Re: Undergravel Filtration?

And undergravel filters are probably not the greatest idea for plecos anyways. The principle of pulling all the dirt into the surface on which the fish tends to spend most of its time seems to be a poor solution, in my mind. -- Mats I totally disagree. I know undergravel filters are "old fashioned ...

I think these could be young (LDA01).
I would lean toward Panaque but here is a photo of a young
wild for comparison.

Re: Ancistrus sp. Snowflake

I have and the largest breeding male is 3" (7.6 cm).
The Ancistrus sp. "Snowflake" male is slightly larger and wider 3.75" (9.5cm)
so I guess I would consider both of these "dwarf" Ancistrus species.

Re: Ancistrus sp. Snowflake

These may possibly be Ancistrus L32 but it's just that, a thought?
The parents of my breeders came from Ohio via Germany and the original wild
grandparents were shipped from Manaus to Germany so their country of origin
is definitely Brazil.

Bought as Ancistrus L159 Wormline?

I just bought some fry that came from the parents in the photos below. The seller assured me they were Ancistrus sp(l159) , but in my opinion, they are not even close. I did quite a bit of research and I believe my catfish are Panaque LDA67 not L104. The Germans call them Panaqolus sp. aff. maccus and here they are referred to as Panaque sp(lda068) in the Cat-eLog. I use 3 types of wood in all my tanks including Malaysian wood, African root, and sun dried red oak ...

Re: small/medium tetra or other for fast flowing water

I would try some Cochu's Blue Tetras (Boehlkea fredcochui) but I can't be sure they won't get eaten. They are a fast swimming aggressive little Tetra so I think they would work well. Try 6 of them to make sure they will survive before you throw in a couple dozen. My second suggestion would be ...

Outside of spawning season I keep them in tap water which has a pH of 7.4 and the TDS is 340 to 450 ppm depending on how often I change their water. These are very realistic TDS numbers (for my tanks also) and I think a lot of people won't give you an accurate information when it comes to TDS. You ...

Re: Panaque maccus spawn

They actually spawned in the cave on the left in the photo. I make my own oak caves but I didn't offer the Clowns a wood cave or they probably would have preferred to use a wood cave. Since I couldn't get them to spawn before, I was going to attempt an upright cave with a hole in the side made from ...
