I debated pretty hard on using my 180 as a native tank with a couple Bullheads, yellow perch, sunfish, etc, before deciding on using it as a species tank to house a single M. Tigrinus. I am setting up a 125 and am leaning back towards a native tank with a Blk and Yellow Bullhead and a yellow perch ...

Feeding a baby Merodontotus Tigrinus? need some help
I just picked up a 5" (if that) Tig. The person I bought him from had been feeding feeder guppies. I don't want to do this. I offered him Krill but he turned his nose up. I would like suggestions on how to switch him to frozen foods like krill, etc. I' just got him this morning so maybe he just ...

Has anyone mentioned ammolock or amquel? They detoxify ammonia and help short term. If it were me, I would do massive water changes and get some (large quantities) of Bio-Spira. It is probably an excercise in futility though. With an 18" a 125 is already too small, by the time you get a 230-240 set ...

Proper hardness for Merodontotus Tigrinus?
I finaly have the ph down in the low 7's and enough KH to prevent crashes but I'm wondering what is the hardness in DGH or ppm of these fishes natural environment. I can't find it anywhere? Are they softwater fish like 3DGH or medium like 8-10 or????

HELP!!! Merodontotus Tigrinus PH problem!!!???
I really need some expert advice!! I have a 5" Tig coming Friday from Shark Aquarium. The PH of the tank at SA is 6.8, mine run at 8.0. I think that over time a Tig could acclimate to 7.5-8.0 but I don't want there to be that big of a swing when he arrives. I use RO/DI water and it comes out to 8.0 ...

Tigrinus tankmates???
What can I safely keep with a Tigrinus in a 180 (72x24x24)??? I have heard Silver Dollars and Tin Foil Barbs as a couple options? Wouldn't Silver Dollars get eaten eventually? I need to find some large but gentle/peaceful fish, any ideas??
