What is B. capapretum? Is it a recent name change? I know of B. vaillanti and B. flavicans. I also heard there is a B. vaillanti/flavicans natural hybrid.

Oh yeah it should be good with your tankmates except the F/w barracudas unless the baracudas are large. The juruense will outgrow them most likely and swallow them down like spighetti

They are easy to keep alive. I have owned around 6 or so and I only killed one because It ate a suction cup I had left in my tank, so it suffocated. It was 16". A 4x2x2ft will last for a little longer than a year or so before you need a bigger tank. They like softer/ acidic waters so a pH of 6.3-7 ...

Try live black worms...they cant resist :P

You can get them at most fish stores. When you buy them, they look like a pile of sewage, but are actually small worms.

Yes the 4ft x 12" wide tank will eventually be too small. These pims can get up to 15"+...24" max. Once the limas get around 12-13" or so it should be able to hold its own against oscars.

Oh yeah and welcome to the site!

excellent replies everyone. I guess these really are up to $150 now. I would love to, and did once plan to start a zebra pleco breeding tank. Unfortunatly I do not have the money. Im still debating whether I should get this fish or not. Maybe I could raise it and eventually sell it to a breeder. It ...

I agree over feeding is definatly a problem when it comes to the brachyplatystomas. I feed mine raw market shrimp every other day and im sure i could feed less than this. So far I have raised two tigrinus up to 13"+(one 13" and the other 18") successfully...ive also kept many juruense- one up too 16 ...

Hey there,,,well the lima is eventually going to out grow some of those fish. And some of these fish may become snacks. Seems like you have the lima on a good diet. A 75 gallon tank will be ok for while. A 180g+ in my opinion, would be the minumum size tank to house and adult lima in. They get 15 ...

yup the drip acclimation is the best way to go. A pH of 8.0 is pretty high for a tigrinus...im not saying it won't work, but that is pretty hard water.

Are you able to give it adequate housing as it grows? A key question to ponder before one makes a commitment. Very true. B. flavicans can be hard to get off of live food. They will take to prepared though. Flavicans need alot of space otherwise they will freak out and bang their nose which is not a ...

I used to drop small peices of raw shrimp into the aquarium after I turned the lights out. In the mourning take the peices out if they aren't eaten. You can try the same with pellets. Eventually mine took to shrimp and is now a PIG.
