Re: Breeding Akysis

Thank you for the information. I've just had a knee reconstruction and have been unable to sit in front of a computer.

The more I look at the group the more interested I become. In terms of the temperature range in Myanmar will they tolerate water below 14oC with occasional drops to 12oC? I also ...

Been a while since I've visited and posted on PC but have returned to ask the brains trust some information.

Syno Tank

Hi all,

Thought it was time I made another post. I've just drained my syno tank to sex and check the fish. Its a 1000l tank with 3 x S. decorus, 10 x S. eupterus, 11 x S. njassae and 9 x S. multipunctatus. I've got the SL's for the fish and canulation results somewhere. I tell you what though the ...

They might accept them if they were a darker colour. I'm just looking around for some to try. However I think the "tight" fit is more important. Interestingly I made a similiar cave with a side enterance, instead of in the end. These are the last ones to be occuplied by both the L134s and ...

There seems to be a variety of caves that are being used for these fish. Descriptions are really good but can we take some time to post pictures of the caves that we use?

I found that round caves were not prefered by the L134s and Peppermints that I keep. They would also not use the caves that I ...

Hi all,

I was sold these fish as L134 or Leopard frog Pleco. But I think they may actually be Peckoltia vittata instead.

What do you good people think?

Rio Tapajós Biotype... what is it?

Hi all,

I've searched this site and googled were I can. I'm looking for information on the water chemistry of this system and biotypes.

I am asking because I am getting four 5cm L134 (Leopard Frog Pleco). I know the system is a clearwater and has a low conductivity (approx. 100uS/cm).

Also does ...

Barbara,

I've recently used levamisole to treat a tank with some S. njassae and para cyps. The pH was around the 7.5-8.0 mark. I added the treatment to the water at a rate of 1ml per 7 liters. Then 24 hours later did a 20% water change. It treated the problem and there was no stock loses.

I did ...

Hi all,

I've been offered some sort of L number but am unsure as to what it is. L numbers other than the common bristlenose and peppermint are very rare in Australia. The person is offering them as Peckoltia Brevis. I can't find them in the Catelog. I did find an old thread were there was a ...

My tanks don't really get all that cold. I've kept C. sterbai upto about 32oC for a few days and above 30oC for over 2 months with out any real problems. Besides that I think their one of the better looking species.

I'm sure there are many others from a similiar biotype.

Steve,

In terms of biofilters, trickle filters (media out of water) are more efficient than submerged filters (media in the water). In practical terms this has great benefits when tanks have enormous bio loads. For the home aquaria the benefits aren't as great. The savings in space and money can be ...

The return to the sump relies on gravity. When the pump input into the tank = the gravity return there will be water in the tank higher than the stand pipe. This is what I called the standing water. Because when the power goes out or the pump is turned off this water above the stand pipe will drain ...
