Re: Will Multipunctatus socialize with other Synocats?

I have a single lucipinnis I picked up about a year ago. The same pet store now has a single multipunctatus. I'm pretty sure its probably a grandiops. They are similar in size. Do you think they will cohabit peacefully or with just 2 will there be bullying?

Re: What's my name (syno)

The pattern, especially towards the tail, looks like smaller spots making up a semi or complete circle; similar to a jaguar's spots. I bring this up only because I noticed a tank at an lfs that was labeled Jaguar Synos. Tank was empty, somebody thought it was a good buy. These were listed as a ...

Re: S. flavitaeniata more common than it used to be?

Cat-eLog mentions: "Although reported to grow up to 15.5 cm in the wild, S. flavitaeniata is rarely if ever seen at more than 8 cm in the aquarium. " I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this. A local shop has one at about 3 inches and its the first I've seen in the area. They're asking ...

Re: is it truely Corydoras nanus?

I have a very similar group that were sold to me as C. elegans. I was leaning more towards napoensis as well, but, I'm no expert, and I think that's what it takes to definitively identify members of the elegans group. I believe there is a lot of variance within the species, especially C. elegans ...

Re: Juvenille S. schoutedeni? S. aterrimus?

I looked through the hybrid photos, it does bare a resemblance to hybrid 3 picture 5. The pattern on this fish is not quite as "busy" as that one but there is probably a lot of variance with hybrids. You don't think there's any chance at aterrimus then?

Re: Juvenille S. schoutedeni? S. aterrimus?

I see other people post a "What is my catfish" with only a description, and I think, a picture would be nice. Sorry, now I'm the problem. I was in the area on business, without a camera, when I stopped in to the shop. I had my cell, but it takes bad pictures. Thought that would be worse than none ...

Re: Juvenille S. schoutedeni? S. aterrimus?

Its not eupterus, at least not like any I've kept or seen. Pattern is not quite the same. Base color is charcoal, white veining is finer. Thinner if you get my meaning. There's more of the charcoal than the white percentage wise. Maybe two thirds to one. Body type is more elongate. Actually ...

Juvenille S. schoutedeni? S. aterrimus?

I was at a shop yesterday and saw a syno I didn't recognize. Sorry, I don't have any photos but it looked almost identical to the subadult pictures of S. aterrimus in the Cat-elog. Its roughly 2.5 inches in length. I asked the shop owner and he told me it was S. schoutedeni. I trust the shop owner ...

Sorry, somehow I missed that earlier thread when I searched. These were exported from Zaire. The LFS is asking about $18 (U.S.) for each, which isn't bad compared to what some of the other syno's are fetching. Cat-eLog puts the size at 11.5 cm, is that about what you're finding or are they staying ...

Info on S. batesii

It seems I may have purchased an S. batesii believing it to be S. marmoratus. Does anyone have any experience in keeping them? The tank this fish was intended for is a 200L, heavily planted, and already has a group of S. nigroventris as well as Cories, Dianemas, and Tetras. Will it be a peaceful ...

According to the dealer, the CITES documents list this as S. marmoratus, but I didn't think it looked right. It was exported through Zaire. I also thought it bore a resemblance to S. afrofischeri. Thank you for the replies.

I purchased this as S. marmoratus. There's no photo in Cat-eLog and it doesn't look like the one in Baensch. Its about 5cm. Any opinions?

I don't know how big the EM fields produced by pump motors and heaters are, but I do know those produced by flourescent lighting are measureable. You can't however measure them with a standard voltmeter, it takes special equipment. Grounding a tank will bleed off any potential produced by an EM ...

There's no reason to feel shy or paranoid. The customer is always right. If you're not comfortable with what you've been sent, any reputable vendor will want you to return it. C. elegans type

Found these at a Petsmart in a tank labeled "Spotted Cories". I've used and had success with Melafix before. I've also used and had success with Maracyn and Maracyn-two. Melafix is a natural product, tea extract I believe, and the Maracyns are antibiotics. I don't have any personal experience with RO systems but what I've been told is that they at best only output 50 percent of the water that's input. That doesn't seem like an efficient recycling method. I think a biological process would be the most efficient, but I agree that most people would not ...
