Same species?

I just got a bunch of the zebra variant s.nigriventris. From what I can find they are only found in the Kutu region of the DRC and are a separate population that does not contain any standard colored individuals. Aquarium glasser published an article about them where it does call them a separate ...

I know the guy that runs that place. He has helped me get some pretty unique woodcats!
Good to know. I purchased 3 dwarf honeycomb woodcats and am in love with them, trying to find more. Will check this place out.

Ancistrus Luzia, banned or just rare?

I have been trying to find some a.luzia. Saw them for sale on eBay once recently but they were gone by payday. They are pretty cool Looking and I am completely unable to find anyplace that looks like they even ever have had them.

Re: Is it possible to spawn Synodontis contractus?

If you do come across any please let me know. I have to separate them to prevent hybrids but I think the big school is a factor and I actually don’t think they will keep spawning if they are suddenly in a tank with just the 4 adults and one little guy.

Re: Is it possible to spawn Synodontis contractus?

There are 3 big things I would say probably helped. 1) I feed a diet that includes a lot of frozen and live food. I do frozen like 4-5 times a week as a main part of the diet in that tank, there are also scuds living in there that I am sure they eat. Plus a repashy mix that is roughly 60% bottom ...

Re: Is it possible to spawn Synodontis contractus?

I wanted to come back and let you know unequivocally that contractus will spawn quite readily in captivity. I found a single fry, maybe 3-4 weeks old when I was doing a thorough cleaning of the tank and putting in new plants. He is about the size of the corydora habrosus that they share a tank with ...

Whiptails. Sexing and compatibility

I am getting some spoonface whiptails and am wondering if anyone who keeps them might be able to show me a picture of the underside of a male and female so I can see the difference. These should be old enough to sex and they will let me pick which ones I want, would like to see an example to be sure ...

Re: Catfish wish list

Oh no! Not the whole list at once. It didn’t seem likely that I would find more than a couple at a time.
I have extensive special order lists at both of my local stores, they come up with something from time to time. I would always prefer to buy from a person than a store if it is an option though.

Re: S.Nigriventris and S.Contractus are unhappy, what can I do better?

When I was replying to the other post I remembered that I meant to come back here and correct my error in uploading the wrong picture last time. That was the picture next to the one I wanted, and was a nigriventris.
This one is contractus, with those adorably huge eyes.

Re: Is it possible to spawn Synodontis contractus?

Yes they will and yes similar to s.nigriventris in pretty much every way. Their behavior, eating, social, and spawning behavior are pretty much identical. They are also similar in that neither species spawns for the first time until they are like two or so years old. The bigger the school the better ...

As requested.
Took a minute, they do not care for having their picture taken.
Edit: I accidentally uploaded the wrong picture here. This fish is a nigriventris. Next picture is contractus.

Re: S.Nigriventris and S.Contractus are unhappy, what can I do better?

So to post an update I now have a school of 10 individuals in a heavily planted tank with some pygmy corys, habros, and Phoenix rasbora and they must like it because now I see them frequently swimming around in groups of 3 or 4. I will be upgrading the whole group to a 60 breeder in a few weeks and ...

Breeding spoonface whiptaiks?

The breeding reports for planiloricaria cryptodon kind of leave something to be desired in the way of information. To anyone running a tank with leaf litter on the bottom, how often do you change out the leaves? My tank just ends up with tons of leaf debris in the water column, is this just unavoidable or am I leaving the leaves in too long or is there some other type I should be using, or maybe more fresh ...

Honestly, I think you are right.
