I often have dreams that I am visiting my parents, and while walking through the basement I run across a tank with a little bit of very green water, and an assortment of tropical fish doing pretty well(considering). I appearently had forgotten about it when I was a kid (15 years without a water ...

the smell seems to be going away. Im not sure how he could have over-fed as i said one shrimp cube a day(tho i may have... the one that wasnt eating made me a little antsy and prone to feed too often). The smell does seem to be getting better, and the fish is doing much better.

I know that my old setup of magnum HOT with biowheel isn't cutting it, which is why I built the sump. It will be a few weeks before any bacteria can grow there tho, so I do still have my old pump running. As a temporary solution I am adding ...

Help! Columbian Cat has stopped eating

Upon returning from a four day vacation I have found that one of my columbian shark catfish has stopped eating. I also lost one while I was gone, but the guy who was taking care of them for me flushed it without getting a good look so I don't know if this is the same issue or not.

It is looking ...

Reno, eh? I like that! I've been dying to get back into the sign business and that seems like a great place to do it!

I've thought about washington or oregon. Even southern WI, but none of these really seemed right. What is the cost of living like in Reno? I'm sure it all averages out once you work ...

Oh, and unless your fish are big diggers, more than an inch (a half an inch even) of sand can cause more problems then it is probably worth. That is mearly my opinion of-course...

The top-most layer can provide a home to beneficial bacteria, but unless you stir the sand up [almost] daily, I think ...

I honestly recomend a stick. At the very least it will keep the sand 'nice and soft' for your fish, and if you give it a good stir regularly you won't have to worry about that rotten egg smell that can build up in your sandy substrate should things get stale.

It is a little fun to tell your ...

This may sound like an odd request, but I am looking for a job.

I am tired of Fargo ND, and am trying to plan a relocation to somewhere else. The tricky part is trying to figure out where to go...

The gal at the LFS told me that one can just take them out of a freshwater setup, and drop them into marine, but I'm not sure that is such a great idea. Mine seem to get stressed out enough as it is without having to deal with a transition like that.

Do you know of an affordable source for the ...

I forgot to mention that I did rinse the sand (obviously not enough...). I would imagine that once it settles, i should be able to siphon off the excess silt over time.

But I want it to look good NOW!

Switched to sand, water still cloudy, safe to replace fish?

I just finished switching from gravel to sand, and I think my columbians are going to love it. I'd like to get the fish moved back into the tank as soon as possible as I'm a little conscerned the powerhead i have stirring up the water may not provide enough aeration(sp?) in their temporary 5 gallon ...

I slowly began switching my columbians over to full marine within a week of purchasing them. At that time, they were about 1.5 inches long. they've grown to be about 5" in about 3 months. As for tankmates, I'm not sure about corals, but I would imagine any crustation or fish that can fit in their ...

I spoke with someone from Rippley's, and they said that the aquarium was not moving, but the "Titanic" exibit was being replaced with a Mars exibit. I guess they are just swapping things up a bit. That being said, that place looks amazing! Thanks for your suggestion, everything helps!

Well, this is very interesting... I'm curious, does the PU sealant spray on? and if so, does it spray glossy, or is more of a 'non-skid' type that I would imagine would be benifitial in the back of truck? A bit of tecture wouldn't be bad, but, as it is black that I'm going for, I would imagine ...

Aquarium School? Taking it to the next level...

I have been thinking about taking the next step in becoming an 'expert' at the aquarium hobby. I figure these big aquariums must have filtration experts, who design the systems and whatnot.

Thoughts of late have been of designing custom aquariums/filtration systems for higher end customers. Glass ...

columbian shark shedding...

one of my columbian sharks (recently perchased) seems to be shedding... This is not normal (i'd imagine). I haven't kept fish for some years now, and don't recall diseases. it's small, and only a $7.50 investment, but i'm fond of the little bugger (and it's tankmates). any ideas?

I seem to recall reading that some of the banjo cats are brackish and from that same area... I think it was the eel-tailed banjo... anyhow, the cat-elog doesn't seem to have any info on them, the everyday variety of banjos seem to be freshwater.
