Update. After looking over my local fish stores I have found only portholes, no hoblos sadly. 36 each seems steep as well. But there were only 2 and they are cute little buggers so into qt they journey.

How big of a group would you do in a 90? Max out about 4"? I was thinking of something a bit bigger but that albino does look pretty neat.

I had a trio of Pimelodus pictus at one time and they would nicely cruise the tank all together, a group of five would be interesting, also add a schoal of medium size tetras and it could look nice and be an active tank. It seems to me the Synodontis are not really what you are looking for ...
