Pine is not good and I would think Poplar is too soft. Given time Pine will kill your fish. Turpentine can be made from Pine. You want to use hard woods. I have heard that Birch and Ash are good woods in the aquarium. I would think Oak and Maple might be OK too. Maples are not all the same though so ...

I remember the bumper sticker I saw in Florida when I lived there - "My wife said I was going to have to choose between her and Bass Fishing. I'm going to miss that woman." On a more personal note - Once my wife said something to the effect of - "You care more about your fish than you do me, don't ...

Limas are great predators. If it comes close to fitting in it's mouth, when the lights go off - it is gone. Limas are also fairly fragile so you will have to pick the other beasts carefully. I have a Lima in a 75 with some Satanaperca daemon. Everybody is happy and I don't think the Lima will out ...

What makes you think there would be a next time? We figured everyone would be tired of this. Who wants to go to Merryland again?

3 foot is really pressing it for an adonis. I thought 2 was closer to realistic. Mine will, should it grow that large, have to live in a 6'x3'x2'. We shall see.

Mystery fish from Iquitos Peru.

Anyone know what this is? Got some of them in Iquitos Peru from a wholesaler. Nobody knows what it is. http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=715 http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=716 http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=717 Thanks, George ...

Been there. Caught neons in a fairly fast moving clear/black water stream. That doesn't mean they don't also frequent calmer water but there were lots of them in the stream.

With a 125 you don't know what quaratine is? You deserve what you get. Treating the whole tank is your only alternatve unless you want to pick the winners and losers. Why do so many fishheads think quarantine doesn't apply to them? I am not un-sympathetic but you have to treat the whole tank and you ...

I and friends have put fish in breather bags in checked luggage. So far no problems. I would think there would be less problems in US domestic but we were international coming into the US. If US fish and wild life is there and sees the fish maybe you would have a problem but so far the fish have ...

I have posted questions about these guys before and thanks for the good info. I got 13 and 2 died pretty quick. They did quarantine in a 20 long and did fine while entertaining me no end. These are very interesting fish. My web research found only live food would be accepted. They actually eat ...

I am going to have singles of each. That way they won't mate and attack rest of tankmates, also less conspecific aggresion. It should be interesting and I would not want to stop you from trying but you might have trouble talking the fish into your idea. I have a similar tank. The Male Crenicichla ...

I am no expert and cannot remember where I saw this but the article warned about over aeration and small bubbles but said it was only a problem in a salt water tank. The point was the little bubbles getting so thick they caused gill function problems. If you think about a protein skimmer you can see ...

Two things - agreed, petricolas don't do the multi/cuckoo thing. They look like multis but that's it. At least that is what I have read and been told. I may have been mislead. I have also had contact with a fish head on another forum who wondered if it was normal for corys to burrow into the sand ...

I have been playing at keeping fish for forty five plus years and have seen all kinds of things that work for people and eventually do not. As I posted, some folks do this (use only RO) but fish and plants do need minerals. If you have been doing this for a long time and it works, by all means keep ...

Just RO water? No tap water mix or minerals added? I have heard some folks do this but it has to starve the tank for minerals unless the RO unit isn't terribly efficient.

It wasn't so much an import as a collecting trip. Bought the Adonis at a wholesaler in Iquitos. The $1.89 didn't include customs in Miami or air fare. The Centromochlus I/we caught ourselves. I can see why they are unavailable here. Their fins are barbed and get stuck in everything. My research ...

Centromochlus heckeli

Anyone ever kept these guys? They look like they would appreciate a current. Would they? What did you feed them? They do not seem aggressive. Are they any danger to other inhabitants if I put them with other fish? How did you catch them? Nets are worthless. They get hopelessly stuck in them. One ...
