Ah, thanks. Well two of them have it, the third doesn't. I'm reasonably certain the one that doesn't is the first one I got from my friend. The other two came from big Al's. That's why I was wondering if the first may be a different kind. Maybe just a somewhat different genetic origin. Still looking ...
I've got 3 clown plecos, or so I thought. Im pretty sure their stripe patterns look near identical, but the tail fin on one of them is different. IMG_20190820_135827.jpg Naturally I just did a water change and they're all in their caves so I can't get full body shots. Is this a normal occurrence or ...
I sell them (check out my profile signature below my posts), donate some to my club, trade at LFS. With so many spawns, I do take good care of them, but I do not try to get 100% survival. But they are well fed; they do not need to snsck on each other. :)) I let them grow, then I clear out the tank ...
That's awesome. And I expect you don't mind sharing your birthday with a few fish
Begs the question though; What do you do with all these spawns? Do you sell/rehome them, or do they snack on each other til a viable population density is achieved?
Lol, and here I am still waiting on my guppies to reproduce... (not that I actually want them to, but I've still got to make the effort to keep them happy. Or finally rehome the lot of them.)
Still looking for a male clown pleco. Somehow I'm thinking I may have better luck with those.
Trumpet snails will stir the gravel but they'll also take over the tank, and they'll eat cory eggs. I would NOT recommend trumpet snails. Cheers, Eric Good to know. I've only had the sand in there for about a month. Stirred it maybe once, here and there. If I run into issues, i may just have to re ...
I have about an inch of (pool filter) sand and not noticed any smells or bubbles. How long does it usually take for it to start doing that?
I've been meaning to get some trumpet snails to sift the substrate but not really a fan of snails. And if I add cories, the plecos will likely go on strike....

Big guy may well be a gal...
Jools
Lol. That's the extrovert, one of the juvies.
Makes me think they may all be girls though. None show clear odontodes, though big guy definitely is "furrier" than the littles.
Wouldn't that just be my luck.
Ha, added a large piece of wood with 5 caves drilled into it all around. And they've started playing musical caves. The big one has quit chasing the others away and one of the little ones has taken over his previously preferred cave.
This is fun to watch
The "little frog" part apparently loosely translates into German and back to English as "tadpole pleco"
I think I need a bigger tank so I can get me some of these...
I'll have to look those up too.
I have a large mystery snail so assassins would probably just go slurp up that one rather than hunt down the tiny pond snails.
My guppies will eat the little snails if I crush them first. But finding those pests is a job and a half.
Page 92, you'll find a summary on the mentioned article in English
Mostly they appear to be articles on commercial scale fishkeeping. Salmon, carp, koi...
further back a few articles on tropical/imported fish.
I didn't really need to know that ;-) Much easier not to do something when you think it's a lot of work and complicated to boot.... Still. I'll try and keep the current tank alive and happy before branching out :-) :)) :)) :)) That's okay. Keep in mind it's not a lot of work if the materials are ...

Thank goodness I have stopped buying when it would require that I set up another tank. That habit took me about a decade to get under control. I was just going to ask how impulse buys work when you need a cycled tank with the right parameters to put those fish in.... I mean, yeah, I go to the fish ...
Huh, never even considered them eating the plastic caves, though PLA (polylactic acid - made from corn starch) ought to be safe enough. Still not quite what I want in this tank though. As much as I complain about the work involved, I like the look of the wooden caves. Haven't seen bamboo big enough ...
Thanks, Eric, I've found a 1" bit and made another wood cave. I'll see about doing more later. It just seems like a lot of work when I could just 3d print some :-) ah but the natural look.... Question though, in one of your videos, you have a male clown pleco fanning a clutch of eggs. Is that a ...
I've drilled out a small piece of wood. (Left) 20190705_164036.jpg only had a 7/8" spade bit, so I thought it might be too small for the original clown pleco, but I've seen his (?) tail stick out of it several times already today. The other two are quite active now, even in the daytime. Not sure if ...
Ok the big piece of driftwood is in. And sank mostly. 20190702_085743.jpg From the color of their droppings, I believe they prefer the dark piece of wood so far. With some nibbling on the second, smaller one. We'll see. Oh one's just nibbling on the new piece b-) Will have to rescape some things, I ...
Yeah, turns out the basement wasn't an ideal place for prepping the driftwood. I pulled it out of the bleach water and it went mouldy the next day. New strategy: bleach, then let it dry in the sun on the roof, then put it in the tank. (Too big to boil) I have a boatload of smaller driftwood pieces ...
Added some broken clay pots and have seen more of them today than ever before. not sure how practical it'll be re cleaning, but I'll figure that out tomorrow. Still have to finish soaking that large driftwood. When that goes in, some things will have to move. And I'll likely be taking out the last ...
Even with the smaller base size they should be fine! You can always do a condo style cave/wood/rock pile for them to hide in and still add more of the clowns and they would still be fine. Picture is of some condo caves I make for my fish just to give you a idea of what will work...… you can do rock ...
