WTB/looking for sources of cool loricariinae USA
Hi all; I'm starting up some tanks again, and I'm looking for some sources of cool whiptails. While the EU has recently been getting great stuff like loricarichthys and apistoloricaria, I haven't seen anything cool here for a long while, except maybe (recently) "tru"E P. apithanos (don't have the ...

hi friends; I was looking for examples of the aforementioned to draft a quick sample review article for my students in an evolution class I'm heading. my usual haunts (web of science, pm, etc) seem to have very sparse information on the subject, but i'm hoping some of the specialists here have some ...

Re: Tips and Tricks
At your local hardware store, you can usually find potting sand, which essentially amounts to completely inert, very fine sand (which almost qualifies as silt). It is by far the best substrate for any sand-diving fish you might have. And aesthetically pleasing/cheap, too.

Also, it should be noted that most responsible breeders only spawn and or pair fish that have been caught in coordinated shipments from the same region. In my experience, even with this safeguard in mind, I have seen very pronounced polymorphisms in coloration between aforesaid co-captured ...

Re: Pterosturisoma microps????
the problem is getting them to take that first nibble. after that, they're voracious feeders, ime.
they tend to prefer grazing on fine layers of biological silt, as it were, so finely mashed peas, baby food, etc work very well in this respect.

The most important things to consider when spawning loricariids are water conditions and cave size/placement. Everything else is of secondary importance.

But when you look at the base coloration between the two animals, yours has a purplish hue, which is common in 411, whereas the other picture, which, IMO, is not 411, has a yellowish coloration.

Re: Variations in l333?
To my understanding, 333 is only found at porto de moz and around, if slightly outside the belo monte area. IME, fish labeled alenquer always turn out to be 401. I've never even heard of a locality with the name boda seda.

It really does look like something within the 260 line. Maybe even 411.
