Lunch

Frontosas are preditory they feed on shell dwellers and dwarf c****ds in the wild. At 1.5" your upside downs would be top on the menu. You may get away with it for a few months while the fish grows up a bit but I really wouldn't risk it. There are loads of other nice fish you could get to fill the ...

I TNT ship live stock next day delivery so it shouldn't be too tough to import a fish from Germany. Don't how much it costs though.

It's nice to see that this is an issue that both retailers and hobbists are concerned about.

I think I am going to talk to my LFS to find out who the suppler was for my catfish and then take that to the trading standard people. I will let people know how I get on.

I reckon he's probably right too and as for the cat-elog I suspect if that was a fake then one of the 600 previous viewers would have (for want of a better pun) spotted it and it would have been taken off. The thing that I am after is why am I wrong? I know that a lot of the hybrid features are just ...

Hi I am fairly new to this as well and trying to puzzel my way through things. This link helped me: http://www.planetcatfish.com/shanesworld/s_c_269.php It is talking about hybrid catfish but it helps by pointing out some of the features people are talking about. It also leads to some interesting ...

I have been reading the "Guidance Note - The Trade Descriptions Act 1968" (as you do) published by the department of trade and industry in the UK and it makes some very good points. It appears that it is not only illegal to sell a fish under a false name but to give any false information about them ...

Thanks for the info on how to spot a hybrid. I am almost completely sure that my fish are hybrids now (reading through the list of all things hybrid is like reading a description of my fish). With respect to stopping the production of hybrids I really can't see that happening but I think it would be ...

I think you guy's are right, it probably isn't illigal to produce a hybrids. What would form the bases of any complaint that I would put to the DTI (department of trade and industry) would be that these fish are being imported and sold illigally under a false name. What happend to me is that I ...

Hybrid Syno catfish

I am fairly new (well completely new) to the keeping of catfish and I seem to have fallen into the standard novice trap of picking up a group of eastern European hybrids. Now my question is this why do they produce hybrids? From what I understand the fish are artificially brought into season with ...

Sorry about the pics I am using an old web cam that takes a massive pic that I then have to crop to a decent image. My catfish have all of a sudden gone shy so I am not sure if I am going to get any more images tonight. I did manage to get a fleeting image of a caudal fin it's not a great but it ...

Hi, I posted some questions regaurding identifying Synadontis Catfish yesterday but I think that posting has got a bit confused (sorry I am fairly new to using this technology stuff). So I shall start again. I have 6 Syno cats in my tank which are about 6 months old. Sold to me as S. Multipunctas ...

Thanks for the really quick reply. The three cats that I see out and about all the time are identical the 2nd picture of Synodontis ocellifer in the cat-elog. The others all look different (to each other and when compared to any pictures I have seen on the net, although still very synodontis looking ...

identification of Synodontis catfish

Hi I am fairly new to this site (and to synodontis catfish) so forgive me if I am asking daft questions. About 6 months ago I bought 6 catfish at about 1" long labeled as synodontis multipunctas. These silvery little guys have now grown up and are obviously not S. multipunctas some look like the ...
