White spot developing on the Tail Fin of BNP

Hey Folks, So I noticed in the last week or so a white spot developing on the tip of my BNP. It was sold to me as a "Green Dragon Ancistrus". Looking at the pic again, it almost looks like there is one developing on the tip of the dorsal fin, too. Is this something I need to be concerned about ...

Ah, ok then! Yeah, male was the only part I was 100% sure on. haha. I guess those eyes just fooled me and my lack of experience. Or he's mad at me and his eyes get dark like my fiancé's do. :)

Thanks a lot!

Help me nail down which Ancsitrus this is? Gold in color, maybe Albino?

Hey cat-nuts! About a week ago, we responded to a craigslist ad that listed a free 37 gallon tank, "MUST PICK UP TODAY!". I was like....sure, I'll take a 37 gallon for free. We can sit on it for a while and start it up later. So I responded that I was interested and could be there whenever. So we ...

Re: Will C. Aeneus school with C. Venezuelanus

Fascinating stuff! I could get really wrapped up in the taxonomy of these little guys really easily. It feeds my need for pedanticism. lol Thanks a lot for the info! FWIW, I think I'll be ordering a group of C. Aeneus to accompany the Albinos, just to be sure to keep it in family (ok species..lol ...

Re: Will C. Aeneus school with C. Venezuelanus

Ah, great information, thank you! Also, my apologies, I posted this topic this morning via mobile, and apparently wasn't quite awake yet. I didn't get the right South American category, and didn't realize this was under the husbandry section, either!! Ooops! :) I don't intend on breeding them, but ...

Will C. Aeneus school with C. Venezuelanus

I was at the LFS today talkin corys, and the guy showed me what was labeled as a Red Sailfin Venezuelan Cory. They looked remarkably like bronze corys. So with a little bit of digging, I think I figured out the scientific name is Corydoras Venezuelanus. Through a recent craigslist deal, I ended up ...

ok....in further trying to diagnose this tank issue i got going here, i now have a pleco that is darting up to the top of the tank, and then right back down. Now there are some cichlid pelets up there, so i suppose he could be going for those. Is that right or is this leaning more to a water ...

well, if i didn't know better, the fish looked like he was blind. he would be sitting on the bottom, kind of in the front of the tank (which was unusual for him). He would also be listing slightly (leaning to one side). Then when he swam away, it would be very slow, and then it looked like he was ...

well....he died. :( From reading on the internet about other fish breathing hard, it seems he was probably stressed out. I'm guessing from keeping him by himself as the only multi in my tank, and along with the ocellifer..... does this sound right? I know you guys said that I need to keep the multi ...

Multipunctatus "breathing" hard?

Ok, i have another problem....my multipunctatus looks like he is really breathing hard. His mouth is even moving when he is breathing. Does this have to do with the water conditions? I don't feel my filter on the tank really is adequate, so i am going to get a new one today, but in the mean time, i ...

hmmm...well my only option to seperate them is to put one in a 10 gal. tank..lol...i don't think that would do so well.

Maybe this will be the excuse to convince my GF that we need another tank. :)

Ocellifer and Multipunctatus fighting?

Hi guys (and gals), It looks to me like my ocellifer and multipunctatus (both about the same size) are fighting. I can't tell for sure because they are behind rocks in the back of the aquarium, but there is deffinately some kind of struggle going on. I see fins wiggling and all that. and then every ...

ok, so here another newbie question....when identifying these fish, what kind of things do you look for? I mean, coloration and pattern can vary, right? Are there other specifics to look for that never lie??

Thanks again!! 8)

What is my fish??? Synodontis of some kind....

Good evening!! I am pretty new to fish keeping, but am learning relatively quickly. Right now, I have a 55 gallon tank with 2 Electric Yellow Hap's, 1 Kenyi, 2 Spotted Sailfin Pleco's, and the mystery cat. I love catfish, but didn't know what kind to get. When researching online, I came across the ...
