Synodontis multipunctatus or grandiops!?
Hey. I have four WC synodontis from Magara. I've been doing some reading on the differences between multipunctatus and grandiops, and I'm not sure which my group fall under. I'm leaning towards grandiops however. I have not been able to get a conclusive photo of the pectoral rays. They are over 3 ...

L129 Hyp. debilittera pics
Here's some pics from earlier when I tore down my tank to clean. Figured I'd take some shots while I was inspecting them. Any thoughts on sexing? #3 is for sure a male! Re: Ancistrus sp. L059
Yea I definitely would assume they're L100 and judging by the available pictures I found online, it's flawless to my eyes. And with the collection point matching as well.

Re: Amphibious Ancistrus w/ pics.
Haha, yea danios are fun to contain. When they spawn it's like rapid fire jumping out.
There's no media in the filter except a couple bags of biomax so I'm not overly concerned if they get in. Just have to make sure they can get out. =P I'll have to check it regularly.

Amphibious Ancistrus w/ pics.
I was walking by my tank and the room was pitch black and I heard splashing. I thought maybe a fish was trying to jump out so I flicked the light on. Didn't see any fish and then I heard it again coming from my filter! I looked and sure enough, there was a female Ancistrus sitting in the current of ...

Re: Ancistrus sp. L059
Thanks. I don't know if they're L100 for sure. It's an educated guess but I can't use them to show people what they should look like. Also, getting a positive ID is pretty tough!

Re: New L129 group with pics.
They're still doing fantastic. Each one has picked out it's little territory. The dominant fish has very distinct markings and is always showing off. =P Luckily his spot is right in the middle of the tank so you get a good view all day. Been feeding with bloodworms, shrimp and spirulina pellets ...

I thought about that they might be grandiops. I'll have to catch a couple sometime and get some pics of the pectoral rays. There doesn't seem to be much info on the topic eh?

Re: Synodontis lucipinnis group arriving soon!
A group of Egyptian Mouthbrooders and a couple HRP that spawn constantly and provide good, easy conditioning food. =) The cats eat them at night when the pair are sleeping. Yea after looking at some pics to compare them they look more like the lucipinnis. Also pet's are supposed to be less commonly ...

Ho-way! They're home. Great looking fish! Very active, very healthy and great size! All fish are over 2 inches. Paid $70 CAD for the seven which is dirt cheap! Re: Ancistrus sp. L059
Thanks Jackster and I totally agree. I belong to a number of forums and same thing. They're definitely nice fish! The white tips are really apparent now. The females are starting to get the "shoulders" on em and getting fat. The male is growing like a weed and is almost pure black with faint white ...

Re: S. multi setup
No spawning success as of yet. I have a freshly holding Ast.nubilus so I'll check her in about six days. Also the rest of the females are gravid so shouldn't be long before they're spawning too.

Synodontis lucipinnis group arriving soon!
Hey all. I have an adult group of seven Synodontis lucipinnis hopefully arriving on Saturday. I'm pretty stoked. It's a species I've wanted to keep for a while but just never had the room. Well a friend has a group that have apparently spawned once already so should be good and ready to go. I'll ...

Re: Ancistrus sp. L059
I'll agree with the facts. If in fact L059 are found in a different water system then I'd agree that they have been mis-identified. I did come off a little harsh I do apologize...been a grueling week outside of fishkeeping. :? I do agree that the picture of the L100 that Jackster provided looks ...

Re: Ancistrus sp. L059
The unfortunate thing is people don't post enough pics that can identify them. I like taking pics and sharing them. In this case it's stirred up more than I wanted but it'll work out in the end. I will continue to post pics as they settle. For identification help they're from the Xingu River. I ...

Re: Ancistrus sp. L059
Yes I'm familiar with exporter's lists and know how confusing they can be. I'm just frustrated and tired of people thinking because they've bred Bristlenose they're an expert. I've bred lots of species of fish and I'm no expert and I'm the first to admit that! I just think it's too early to assume ...

Re: Ancistrus sp. L059
Not to be rude but I love how when someone owns a Datz book or can google something they assume they're an expert. I got these from Oliver Lucanas and I'm going to trust his identification as he's co-written books on catfish and is a writer in TFH. He's also collected fish in from the wild ...

Re: Ancistrus sp. L059
They haven't got their colour yet. A lot of times fish will lose their colour during shipping. They are wild fish and it could also be that they were collected outside of breeding season. They're already beginning to show some reddish/orange colour in the fins. Will be a few months before they are ...

Re: Ancistrus sp. L059
Thanks. The tank's only 35-gallons but there's a ton of hiding places, lots of filtration and I do daily water changes.
The forks I've turned them down and buried them in the peel. Shouldn't be a problem.
Cool to see other Canadians on here. =)

Ancistrus sp. L059
Just picked up these cool plec's a couple days ago. They're settling in nicely. I picked up eight WC plec's. They came in pretty skinny with some fin tearing but they're starting to heal up and get some weight on. Anyways, here's some pics. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v428/Didgeridoo ...

Possible male? He's larger than the rest and is more "hairy". Also he's quite aggressive of his little hole.

Re: Hello everybody! My L129? Questions and ID
The striping on my L129's is similar to AndrewC's pic. The topic I posted previously had photos of them stressed out. They've since darkened considerably but the base colour is not white/light gray. They're more light brown/tan. I keep mine over a very light substrate which may affect the colour as ...

Nothing from the last two spawns. Have three more nubilus holding though. I did witness the multies in the spawning activity of the nubilus but didn't actually see the female pick up eggs or not. I did witness the male nubilus eat a few eggs which I'm presuming were cat eggs. The one female is very ...

Re: S. multi setup
Thanks for the help. I've got two cichilds holding from a couple days ago so we'll see what that brings. The previous spawn was all cichlids. I think I need to aquascape the tank a little better though. Too many pieces of slate.
