Re: Tips for new pleco breeding project thanks.

After posting this I tried to observe my L200s to try and post some pictures. They actually might be pushing 4" now, at least the 2 bigger individuals.

I could supplement the tank with some sliced cucumber but being a 30" tall tank I really hate having to fish for the uneaten skins 😅.

Re: Tips for new pleco breeding project thanks.

I have had a different experience with my L200. They are in a 800L tank with a breeding colony of L397s, L340s and a pair of P. apithanos. The L200 are the most reclusive of the bunch and really slow growing. They only show up during feeding and stay in the vicinity of the driftwood, quick to run ...

Re: Any tips to getting L134 and L397s to spawn?

I know it's a cliché, but patience is key. I only found L397 fry after 3.5 yrs of keeping them. True I got them as juveniles, but the males had long since developed odontodes near the tail before I got a spawn. Sometimes the tanks get neglected and miss a weekly water change, then the next water ...

Re: Breeding L397 babies mixed with subadults

I leave mine to their own devices. I have 3 adult males and 2 females that breed regularly. I have 0.5" fry up to 3" sub adults roaming around the driftwood in a 200g tank. I only took the fry from the male the first time I spotted fry. After that I have just let them be. They seem to do better ...

Re: Put a couple of L200s with my L397 group?

Hi, I have a group of 4 L200a which I've had in quarantine for 3 months and will be moving them to a 200g. The tank already houses a breeding group of L340s and L397s and a pair of P. Apithanos. Before I moved the L397s into the big tank I was concerned they would fight the L340s over territory, but ...

Egg bound L264 [graphic content]

Hi guys, Earlier today I noticed one of my L264 darting to the surface and then going listless. Tried pulling it out for an epsom salt bath after it seemed bloated, but died shortly afterwards. On a friend's suggestion I cut it open to find it was holding eggs. These are housed in a 30 gallon with ...

Re: L046 and wavemaker?

Hi Dan, I had Hypancistrus spawns with and without wave makers. The ones I use are Tunze 6020, to which I attach an airline with an airstone using a rubber band. By fixing the airstone below the Tunze intake allows for increased dissolved oxygen across the tank. The hood on the powerhead allows one ...

Re: Zebras- what did I just witness?

I've found 3 week old fry with eggs in the same cave more than once with the Hypancistrus I've bred (L340 & L201). My point being if the female is really ready to spawn, the male would probably let her in the cave.

Re: Leporacanthicus cf. galaxias`venezuela`breeding advice

If you have a smaller tank, you could fill that up with water from the cichlid tank and move the entire cave with male + fry. Always tilt the cave entrance upwards so as not to drop its contents. Once the male leaves the cave you can relocate him to the main tank, leaving the fry in their own tank ...

Re: Spectracanthicus zuanoni (L354) spawned!

Great job Jac, still kicking myself for missing out on a group of these. My Leporacanthicus have been trapping intermittently for close to 2 weeks and still no spawn. So very impressive from your fish, keep us updated.

Re: Need advice from rare pleco breeders, please.

I found these caves helpful, the fry will congregate together in there while adults prefer the normal caves. I cup the (left) rear hole with my hand while I pull the cave out and transfer the fry into a bucket.

Re: L340

Hi Desauron, I've had L340 for close to 4 years now and they've always been skittish, quick to dash when they notice me approaching the tank. If you could add some ceramic caves near the front glass pane might help in at least making them more watchable. The more cover you provide them, the safer ...

Re: L340 Spawn, need help!

Hi Desauron, it's cat_allergy here but forgot the password to my account so I had to register as a new user. A friend I sold some L340 youngsters to lost one of the fish to bloat. I keep mine at 26-30C and feed them a German brand of granules/paste food. Like most catfish they're nocturnal so you'll ...
