Even botia sp. will not be able to eat this species of snail. MTS (short for malaysian trumpet snail) are notoriously tough. "...only the giant Osphrononemus goramy seems willing to eat them. There may be a few cichlids that will eat them but I haven't found one yet." --from Alfred D. Castro's ...

Haven't seen it, but I'd watch the cories for any damage as those babies get older.

I need to ask: do you have a bigger tank for when those 6 clowns and 3 synodontis ocellifer grow up (13" and 8" species, respectively)?

Sometimes the drastic water condition changes, (i.e. from nasty shipping bag to clean tank or nasty tank to cleaner tank) can trigger spawning. My pair did that recently. Unfortunately, that's more of a natural reaction like, "I think we're going to die, this may be our last chance," than "I like it ...

Honestly I think its hard to identify from Corydoras for a untrained eye. So this is one of the lesser mistakes of the lfs in my eyes. You cant get Brochis here for 5$...8 euros is the normal price here so I cant beleive the 2,50 avg price thats given in the post before. You must mix them up with C ...

Jackster, I wasn't trying to pick apart your post. I just wanted to point out loach species that would be no good for snail population control. If your snails were eating plants, they were apple snails (p. caniculata, insularium, or haustrum), not the common physid or planorbid "hitchhiker" snails ...

Petsmart in the US sells them under the name Emerald Green Corydoras and charges twice as much ($5 vs. average of $2.50 or so) for them.

All loaches will eat snails Actually, I can think of 3 or 4 particular fish sold as 'loaches' that won't ever do a thing to snails: the dojo loach/weather loach/weatherfish, kuhlii loaches (there are several species), java/"black" kuhlii loach, and hillstream loach/Hong Kong butterfly "plecos ...

Do note that statistical correlation does not necessarily denote the real cause. There are plenty of crazy statistics like "misogynistic men are more likely to die young." Does personal bias kill? I would say documented WWII actions like blasting reefs and atolls that get in the way of amphibious ...

Bettas & tankmates are hit & miss. It depends on the individual's personality (not on gender). If you do introduce them watch them closely for some time. Some bettas will bite; others see the tankmate and then ignore it. With pygmies, I think it's be a tragedy to put them in with one that nips. I ...

It was suggested by someone on another board that packages of bio spira that are mishandled or exposed to high heat in transport can get to the store dead. :( I think that's the case. Checked the levels last night, did a water change, & this morning: Ammonia 2-4 ppm (slightly lower, but then again ...

I personally feel that global warming is alarmist rhetoric coming from conservationists.

There's proof that Iceland used to have tropical seas (fossils in the shore cliffs) and we all know about the ice age. A single degree's difference over 100 years is nothing. Earth can take it.

I DID add biospora about 36 hours ago. About 2/3 went into my 55, and the rest went into this 16 gal tank. Could it have expired? It was in a fridge at the store. Added a different water conditioner that neutralizes ammonia & nitrites with the water change, so my tests are currently useless. Pre ...

BN with ick?

I'm just a little paranoid because yesterday, it appeared that my male BN had ick. White spots that were definitely not substrate stuck to him and his belly. I turned up the heater to 80F. He seems to be shedding skin. There aren't as many spots this morning, but I have not seen his belly today ...

Are you sure they haven't hatched already? Look for tiny wriggling fins on those loose 'eggs.' A number of fish hatch and carry around the yolks for a while. If possible, scoop them by swishing the water around to try to get the eggs off the substrate without squishing them (catch the egg when it ...

Use tank water. Otherwise you'll kill your benficial bacteria and send your tank into a cycle!

Probable the part you want to concentrate on are the impeller (the main moving part). In general, once a month for the filter box (if you're anal) is sufficient.

Yes, cedar is one of the woods that contains potentially harmful oils & such. There are site out there that warn about using cedar as bedding with certain small animals, too.
