Re: Peckoltia lineola breeding project - spawned, but...
I just had the same thing happen about 5 days ago, although i didn't see caving or trapping they just did it overnight. They spawned then kicked them out. They looked viable golden eggs but overnight in the Ziss tumbler they turned milky pastel yellow and later in the day were mouldy. Being it was ...

Re: What is the scientific name of this whip tail.
Thanks a lot to Eric, Shane and Jools. I appreciate your help everytime. I'm very happy with the outcome and think it is F. Vittata. There is 2 belly plates each side of a centre dividing line. Looking at the belly of the F. marielinae i see the big difference in the 3 plates going across. Thanks ...

Re: What is the scientific name of this whip tail.
This is most likely F. vittata. When identifying Farlowella it is always best to start with F. vittata as default starting ID as, at least in the U.S., this species represents about 90% of imports. F. vittata are collected in the Colombian llanos in massive numbers for the trade. That said, if my ...

Re: What is the scientific name of this whip tail.
Hi Eric, I think this is the best i can get, decent shots and very clear. I'm leaning towards the belly looking like (a) or (b) in the artists drawings. And also (f) on the side on picture, they seem to be the closest. Not very sure if that would or could be correct. I wonder what you think. If ...

Re: What is the scientific name of this whip tail.
Yes i was counting the belly plates. But wow this is hard, the more i look into it the more confused i get. I have some more better photos out of the water i will upload. When i think i have made some progress i am then not sure again. Possibly its going to be easier once it's grown up a bit more ...

Re: What is the scientific name of this whip tail.
Yes now I understand that a bit more. Mine has 6 rows top to bottom with 2 each side. Not 3, so I take it that the scutes are side by side. So mine had 12 little plates (section things). Sorry I’m not so good with all the names of the exact body parts. I’m better with plecos. If it was what I tho ...

What is the scientific name of this whip tail.
Hi, Just wondering what is the scientific name of this whiptail. Just so I know exact one on this site. There is so many that are similar. I’m in Australia so I’m sure there is a limited amount that it could be as we only get a few types. I got it today so these are the only pics I have so far, will ...

Re: Sexing L333
Yes nice size and i also think brought up well. I feed a variety of repashy types, zucchini, protein pellets and hikari carnivores. I think i might start using blood worms aswell. And yes i have heard of them breeding for up to 8 yrs. So good chance to get them to keep going.

Re: Sexing L333
For me it looks like two females but they doesnt look gravid, that buffels me.. Hi, Yes not gravid at all, I think these could be old fish. They came from my friend that also got from his friend. I picked them up cheap so didn’t say no. But now hoping they aren’t to old as being 14cm they could be. ...

Re: Sexing L333
I know females will cave, but that is not the same thing as claiming a cave. that is a territorial and very male thing to do. Females will shelter or hide in caves, but they will not claim one. My trick re sexing is always to buy groups. I figure if I get between 7 and 15 I will for sure have both ...

Re: Sexing L333
Hi mate, thanks for the response. They actually both cave (but many of my other L-numbers females cave always and leave to either get trapped by males or eat), also why i think both male. But if both female i will be very happy as males here in Australia are easy to get and cheap, females are never ...

Sexing L333
Hi, Been a while since i posted. I'm seeing if anyone can help me sex these L333. Both are big at 14cm, i thought i had a pair but starting to think maybe both male. But one has more pectoral fin odontodes and a bit more on it's tail than the other. And the vent seems to be a little different in ...

Also would a one time bath of PP be enough or would i have to do it 3 times like the above video. In community tank i have a black ghost knife fish, i think that may not be good in PP but not sure.

Re: Using pertassium permangenate to kill parasites
With the hydrogen peroxide is there a correct dose amount to make the PP stop working. When i did my 7 min baths at 1gm per 10 litres i just took the fish out after. ***There is not and cannot be because no one can predict how much PP is consumed and how much left after a treatment is deemed to be ...

Re: Using pertassium permangenate to kill parasites
It works for plecos as well. The info happened to be on that site was all. It is considered a pond med but it still works in tanks :-p Barbie used it to cure zebras. I will say that fish meds are easy to get in the states. I have a med box with anti-biotics, anti-parasitic meds, anti-fungal meds ...

Re: Using pertassium permangenate to kill parasites
Yes using paraguard would be so much easier i think. Being 5ml per 40litres for my 1900 litres in tanks i would need about 240ml every day. Unless i halved my levels of water during treatment. On the paraguard bottle it says treat daily aswell. How long do you think it takes to clear something like ...

Re: Using pertassium permangenate to kill parasites
@TwoTankAmin, Yes, that's Barbie's story. The Seachem Paraguard is supposedly (according to Seachem) an effective but safer alternative to Proform C because it uses a formaldehyde alternative (an ambiguous proprietary blend of non-formaldehyde aldehydes). Cheers, Eric Yes using paraguard would be ...

Re: Using pertassium permangenate to kill parasites
I have never been tempted to mess with PP. I do know Barbie solved a zebra fry die-off years back using Proform C. The problem was similar. Spawning adults OK but the fry all dying. If I recall they discovered the cause of the deaths in a University lab and it was oodinium aka velvet. Have a read ...

Re: Using pertassium permangenate to kill parasites
I have been using PP rather routinely over a decade to kill off external parasites, bacteria, and viruses. It is also used by some fish importers receiving fish collected from the wild. 3x baths of 15 min of dark purple solution in a 1 foot wide tank. The exact % can vary. You can google it and you ...
