Common or starlight?

Would this be a common or starlight plec? I tend to lean towards a starlight myself.

A friend of mine on another forum has posted this picture of her plec. I know that the males have the bristles, but this one's are weird. Can anybody help sex it?

Did I miss something here? Did you actually state what the lfs was asking (pricewise) for this fish or was it all supposition?

Yes, our water on Vancouver island/lower mainland is SUPER soft. Low to no readings on GH and KH are very common around here. Most people have to buffer their water to keep ph neutral here.

I have 3 of them. They need wood. Mine get a varied diet of algae wafers, zucchini, blood worms, flakes, and anything else from pellets to bioblend herbivoire that makes its way to the bottom of the tank.

I have my temp at 78, lots of water flow and a ph of 6.8.

I agree with the night feeding. Some of my plecos live with very large (7-9 inch plus blood parrots)and to make sure they get enough, I feed when the lights go out at night. Not just the tank lights, but when I am actually going to bed and the house lights are out.

The only thing I'm still concerned about is the 29 temp. It's a high temperature and unless there is a lot of oxygenation/current in the water, there will be oxygen depriation.

It may be excessive, but where discus breeding is concerned, it's not unheard of.

I'm not an expert, but it sounds like you'll be able to have almost any pleco you like in those conditions.

Have you thought about a queen arabesque or something equally beautiful and small? You said that fancy plecos aren't common around your area?

I love l204's, however they are a much prettier ...

What PH will your water be? (Discus like acidic don't they?)

Will it be a tank that is heavily aerated or have a lot of waterflow?

If we have these answers, then finding a pleco to suit the environment will be easier. :)

Blue phantom?

A local fish store is selling a pleco with the name of "blue phantom."

The body is a pretty blue colour, like the L239, but unlike the L239, it has light blue coloured spots on it. Could anyone tell me an L number for it please?

Thanks.
