corydoras hasbrosus & cherry shrimp

I picked up two corydoras hasbrosus from an auction table recently and just put them into the most appropriate tank I had. It's a planted 10g with a fairly large breeding colony of cherry shrimp as well as a couple of small (temporary )upper dwelling fish. They're really cute and I would like to get ...

hmm, forgive my ignorance on the subject Mats. By mutts I did mean a strain created by hybridizing initially. That's what I thought the commons (sp.3) was. If that's debatable then, is what you're saying that some believe it is a pure strain and no-one just happens to have found any wilds to prove ...

I'm sure you're right Matt.
Most tank bred commons are "mutts" aren't they? So likely she is too and she's just a throw back to to some ancestor that looked like her?

I'm not sure what happened to the pic but she looks just like the one Silurus linked to.

yes! Silurus, that's exactly what she looks like. I say she because still no bristles and I've had her for 8 months. Also hasn't put on much length, she's only about 2.75 TL. Has a nice solid build though, she isn't skinny. I like her, much prettier then the usual commons. I just picked her out of ...

thanks for the input! the tank is full of live plants, part of my concern is that all the other fish in the tank are such pigs that I'm worried there's nothing left. I have started dropping in a little food after lights out though so maybe that will help. makes me feel better anyway. :) He is active ...

Rubbernose not eating

I bought a L187a going on 2 weeks ago and cannot get it to eat, in front of me anyway... It doesn't appear to be getting thin yet and is quite active but I'm concerned of course. So far I have tried algae wafers, sinking wafers for bottom feeders, peas peeled, squashed and dropped in, peas mashed and ...

Shane
Could you point out what differentiates this fish from Ancistrus sp. 1 in the Catalog? I ask because I have a bn that resembles both of them.

Thanks

Chaetostoma milesi or 187a?

I picked up a rubbernose plec today. It's basically a slate gray color with black spots although in some light his base color takes on a brownish hue. Mostly though you would say he's gray, that's the overall impression. I've looked at the pictures of the Milesi and they appear gray and look much ...

thanks troi. I'm sure I would have been tempted not to quarantine. I'll take your warning to heart now though. I don't know what sort of choice I'll have at an lfs, seems I just have to wait for the stray one to show up somewhere. No one seems to get them in regularly. I can order online but then I ...

L260 - need info before I buy.

Hi! I'm new to planetcatfish and pretty new to catfish too. I have read some of the articles here and gone back in the posts a few weeks but I find I still need to ask a question about the latest fish I fancy getting. I started keeping fish a year ago and have 4 community tanks, all planted. They ...
