Wotroi Cories

I purchased some wotroi cories at a local petstore. I am looking to get some more but when I google the wotroi it comes up with two types.

corydoras melanistius or Corydoras brevirostris

Which one do I have?

The babies are now about 1/2 inch. I saw a tiny one so I am suspicious that Mom and Dad are busy again. Do they do this all year round or will they take a break to clean the tank. At what size is it safe to remove the babies from the sump. I am not looking forward to that day as they are very active ...

OK, We'll keep our fingers crossed. Since Dad is lying upside down, do you think he is done?

Our number is up to 25 (24 in the sump, 1 in the tank)

The male is still in the same spot, lying upside down on the ground. (no, he's not dead) He must be just exhausted from all that baby sitting. I was wondering why he wasn't coming out at night or moving from that one spot under the drift wood. In any event, my daughter found #20 in the tank. I tried ...

Well, the number is up to to 19 now. It seems that every few hours we find more. There are also some baby cherry shrimp in the sump which I put in there yesterday so they could grow up before I put them in a tank. Would you please explain how I should give them the lettuce? You say crushed but does ...

I have babies!!!

I opened the door to my sump, pulled it out and low and behold I saw 5 baby plecos (bristlenoses). I called my LFS and my main contact told me to just leave them in there and drop a quarter of an algae wafer into the sump for them to eat. A few hours later, my daughter came running downstairs and ...

Well, this was my first batch and so far my only batch. I hope they breed again as it was a lot of fun watching them grow up.

I don't know what I would differently but I certainly would like another shot at it.

Actually, Tike was always the first one out to eat. Sike was really shy and it took him a little longer to come out to eat.

Well, we'll see what happens. He's healthy and active so let's hope he lives a nice long life.

I'm not too sure what you mean by "early feeding" but when they were fry, I fed them dry fry food, frozen daphnia and bloodworms as they got a little older.

I did get the parents at the same place but at different times; about 5 months apart.

Dwarf Cory?

Six Months ago, Mike and Spike (Melanie Cory Cats) had 8 babies. Two of them lived (Tike and Sike). They are currently housed in a 90 gallon planted tank. All four of them are doing great. Now my question: Tike still looks like a baby. His brother (or sister) is about 2 1/2 times his size. Tike gets ...

bronzefly, I understand what you are saying so I'll tell you what I like. I am looking for color contrast. If I could make the zebra pleco a full time algae eater, I would pick one up tomorrow.

Hope that helps.

Best Looking Algae Eater

I am setting up a 90 gallon tank within the next month. I will probably move either a bristlenose or pitball to the tank. I would like to get a second pleco to help clean. What would be a really good looking pleco (striking) to get that would do a respectable job in cleaning algae?

Beginner Breeder Question

I have 3 cory eggs. They seem to be white but have a dark center in them. Are they fertilized eggs? It is the third day since they have been hatched. As soon as I saw the eggs, I put them into a breeders net. Since there is a big hole in there, I moved the breeder's net into a 2 1/2 gallon tank with ...

OK, I moved 3 of the eggs over (I can't find the 4th one). It was actually quite easy.

If after 24 hours the eggs do not change color, does that mean they weren't fertilized? I have them in a breeders net in the tank. At what point do I need to move them over to their own tank?

They are back to hiding so I can't get any pictures. I will try the breeders net next time. Hopefully they will lay the eggs away from the silacone so I can move them to safety.

Unfortunately the eggs were eaten. I couldn't take them off with a razer blade because they were on the silacone and didn't want to risk damaging that.

Something Funny going On!

My Melini catfish hide all day long but something must have been in the bloodworms because all of a sudden, two out of the three of them were swimming all over the place. OK, I will do that. It's funny, the tank is so much cleaner without the pleco. Yes, I have to clean off algae but there is definately much less waste. I am also thinking of getting a couple of ottos instead. I have two ottos in my ten gallon and they are doing a great job. I was always told that ...

I am having problems keeping bn alive for more than 2 or 3 months. I have a 15 gallon tank. The first couple died because of ICK but the others I have had just died. The last one was very active for a couple of months and then all of sudden I rarely saw him. Within a couple of weeks he was dead. All ...

I purchased a BN Pleco for my 15 gallon tank less than a week ago. He does nothing besides sit behind the thermometer. I have plenty of algae and driftwood in the tank. I have given him wafers and zuchini and I don't think he is eating anything. I have gone into the room at night to see if he has ...
