Maybe? Peckoltia has become a bit of a trashbin and needs splitting eventually, but this particular fish is still kind of shrouded in mystery. As you so brilliantly pointed out in your analysis of the material ...

I discussed this fish with Leandro Sousa when he and hos crew were on a survey in the Rio Tocantins. We did speculate at first if it was indeed a Hypancistrus, but we concluded it was Peckoltia sp(L080) . The dentition doesn't really fit with either genus. I'm unsure if there were more than one ...

There is no "deliberate" collecting of these for the ornamental fish trade (because the traders believe nobody wants to buy this colorless fish), so the ones coming in are usually bycatch specimens as pointed out above. Sad really, because they are so cool.

Yes, "the crying whiptail". These pictures look a lot like Spatuloricaria but it should be the species you mentioned. Did you, want any chance, get a picture of the mouth?

It's definitely Loricaria nimairaco , despite a certain resemblance to Spatuloricaria. They are tank breds ...
