Re: Bunocephalus coracoideus spawning
Thanks Eric. It was very unexpected. Actually I was concerned if they were ok. There is not a lot of places for them to hide. And I was not sure if they were eating enough, because there is a lot of corys in that tank.
But I feel very lucky that I was there at that exact moment.

Bunocephalus coracoideus spawning
Hi, got a chance to film my Bunocephalus coracoideus spawning.
It was 2 AM when I decided to check my tanks before going to bed. When I turn on the lights I saw some unusual behavior of my group of B coracoideus (2 females and 3 males). So I turned on the tank lights, and 5 minutes later the first ...

Corydoras undulatus?
Hi, saw these fish in my LFS in a Corydoras aeneus tank.
Could these be Corydoras undulatus? Or C088? Or CW085?
The fish is from Brazil.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Amblydoras or Merodoras
Hi, I've got this little guy for almost 9 months, and as far as I can tell it is still the same size, around 4 or 5 cm. I thougt it was a juvenile Amblydoras, based on the caudal fin. But yesterday I saw a Merodoras nheco , that has the same caudal fin and SL 54mm, so now I'm not so sure. Any ...

Re: How would flag tail porthole cats do in a 75 gal pleco tank at 85F?
Hi, I have only 2 in a 55. They are not very active, except when feeding. I can't tell if in larger groups they are more active, but I would not say that they are a midwater fish. Mine are always over plants or rocks. They do not hide, so fighting with plecos for hiding places is not a problem. It's ...

I was at the fish store where I bought mine. And I saw that they have the same fish in a display tank. It's 15-20 cms. Maybe this pictures can help the identification

Hi Glauce, I know what you mean. "Abacaxi" is used as a commom name for a few species of plecos here in Brasil, usualy Pterygoplichthys pardalis , or other species of Pterygoplichthys. But I have seen some Hypostomus being sold as Abacaxi as well.
I think I got the same fish as you.

Re: Take suggestions for catfsh of the month?
Hi, I don't think Carachama mama is a brazilian name.
In Brazil the commom names are
Cascudo cauda de lira / Cascudo espinho / Canana capeta
I think carachama is a peruvian name

Re: P. pardalis?
Hi Eric, the abdominal spots were the first thing I noticed that made me doubt that it was not P. pardalis. The second was the fin spots, there are some on the fin spine, but on the fin rays they are practically absent. It is almost like the fins are black and the fin rays are white.

Re: Hypostomus sertanejo?
Hi
Thats indeed Hypostomus sertanejo.
The species is being bred by Hudson Crizanto in Brazil, so I guess you purchased some of his offspring.
Now a lot of LFS are seeling this species, and they are being sold as farm raised and not as wild caught.
So I guess Acanthicus is right. And I think ...

Hi, about the size of Pimelodus maculatus I have found this information:
"P. maculatus females have a higher average length
than males (Barbosa et al., 1988; Basile-Martins et al., 1986; Braga, 2000; Fenerich et al.,
1975); the largest recorded length is 44 cm for females and 38 cm for males ...

Re: Rescued cory
Hi Eric,
The fin spine is missing. So, if it won't grow back, maybe it's been like this for a while. I have never seen melafix at a lfs, It's avaiable online, but it is a little expansive, and it would take more than 2 weeks to be delivered. So I will try to find something similar at a lfs.

Hi
Saturday I rescued 2 corys and 10 neons from a guy that lost interest in the hobby. He told me the corys are at least 5 years old.
One albino coy is in really bad shape, it has no pectoral fin! The dorsal fin was almost gone, and had some red spots on the caudal fin. I'm keeping it in a ...

There is almost no pictures of Amblydoras monitor! The one in scotcat.com seens a little different than my, specialy the color. But it is difficult to trust in only one picture, of one specimen and with bad lighting.

Re: Lucky day at the LFS, amblydora and platydora?
Hi Dave, the problem with Amblydoras nauticus is the distribution.
I am quite sure the fish is from Brazil, and if Amblydoras nauticus is only found in Peru, than thats not the case.

Re: Lucky day at the LFS, amblydora and platydora?
So you think the darker is a Platydoras hancockii?
And the marbled one? I guess it may be Amblydoras affinis or Amblydoras nauticus.
Amblydoras affinis is found in Brazil, so i think its more likely to be it.
With regard to the s, and the plural in Portuguese, you are quite right. It is hard to ...

Lucky day at the LFS, amblydora and platydora?
A recent visit to a small lfs proved to be very fruitfull. Usualy all they sell are some bettas, guppies and goldfish. But luckily, at least for me, someone sent them a diferent fish from what they had ordered. And since they didn't know what they had the prices were very low.
And I just had to buy ...
