MatsP, Thanks for the link to that article. It's a very good indication I think, but it made me also more confused, because it says that only MALES have forked tentacles, and tentacles on the whole face. But the biggest Ancistrus I have, has tentacles on the face, but they are not forked! Another ...

When the head-tentacles grow when the fish become mature, I can exclude some of the 'larger' ANcistrus-species. I think the biggest one is about 8 centimeters. I hope I haven't bought 3 males :( All 3 have head-tentacles, but only 1 has 'big ones'. The other 2 have tentacles that are much smaller ...

Thanks you both for replying. When I bought the fish, the shopkeeper said something about Manaus, but I'm not sure if he meant the fish were catched in that area. I took the Mergus WElsen atlas, but there are also many many many Ancistrus species described. I never realized there are so much of this ...

Ancistrus species, but which one?

Last week I bought 3 new catfish from store. They sold them as L183 - ANcistrus dolichopterus. See pic's below: Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3 When I take a look in the Cat Elog, then I see that the L183 has a white stripe on it's fins, the species I bought doesn't. Now I think it is possible that I ...

Hi Tuti, Very nice presentation. I have recently acquired a young pair of keyhole c*****ds and they are trying to defend their spawning site from four L204 pl*cos very much like the interaction captured in your featurette. You have inpsired me to try the short video function of my new digicam. I ...

I don't know how well you can read german language, but I can recommend 'Mergus wels atlas 1' & 'Mergus wels atlas 2'. Both parts describe a lot of species of the Loricaridae-family. Part 2 is totally L-number-minded.

Your pictures look a bit similar to my fish, except that my one is a little bit darker. It has the feathery edge on it's frontal fins, but they are very small. I think we have the same species, but I'm interested in the difference of colouring between the ones in the cat-log (yellow-brownish) and ...

Sold as L244, but I'm not sure...

Hi everybody, A few weeks ago I bought a nice pleco in store. They told me it's name was Pseudolithoxus dumus , also known as L244. When I look in the cat-e-log I see the fish there has a very light color, much more lighter than the one that's swimming in my tank. My fish has a grey/blueish color ...

Agamyxis pectinigfrons & Otocinclus Vittatus: together?

Hello, In a few months I'll have a larger tank, to replace the 2 smaller ones. Now I have Otocinclus vittatus in 1 tank, and Agamyxis in another one. Is it safe to put them together in one tank, or does the agamyxis think the Otocinclus are dinner? I hope there is somebody who can answer the ...

I'm pretty sure that it's not a L199. It was sold to me being a L52 or a L168, but the eyes on these two species look different.

Very good pictures from beautiful catfishes.

But on the other hand: I think you should create much more hiding places for the cats, and I think the tank is a little bit over-populated.

Ah thanks Mats, thats a clear answer. Somewhere it wondered me always a little bit that the L-numbers did not contain any species from the Loricariinae-family, while there are so many species in that family.

Is it the same story for Hypoptopomatinae? (Hope I write it correctly)

I think the best english term for 'Gattung' is 'Genus', just what Racoll said.

@HaakonH: But is that not just the same what they're doing with L- and LDA-numbers? Or did you mean that L- and LDA-numbers already have a familyname (Like Hypancistrus sp.), LG-numbers not?

LG-Numbers? What are they?

Hi,

In the Cat-elog I found a species with Common name 'LG6'. Also I read somewhere else about some otocinclus species, what has a common name 'LG5'.

Now I'm wondering: what does this LG-numbers mean? Is it something like the L- and LDA-numbers?

Thank you for your resonse, Jorge. Now i'm also pretty sure about it that I've got at least 2 species of Hemiloricaria Parva.

Now i've got 1 more question: I want to do some pvc-pipes in the tank to provide them some spots to breed. What is the most optimal size for these pipes?

Rhineloricaria Filamentosa

Yesterday I saw this beautiful fish in the local fish store. I wanted to search for some information about it; but that is really difficult i think. Can anybody tell me more about this fish? It isn't in the cat-e-log i think :?

Is it such a rare species or did the shop use a wrong name?
