I currently keep Centromochlus macracanthus (a pair) and Centromochlus musaicus (five specimens; supposedly 2M/3F, but I can't confirm this yet).

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Last summer I got inspired by the Dordogne once again, so I'm going to make the tank more open (less wood, some stones, more current). The inhabitants are going to be barbs (Sahyadria denisonii and Dawkinsia filamentosa), combined with Awaous lateristriga gobies. That should give me plenty to see ...

Re: Odd characin thread
It took me nearly a year to find out that I missed keeping fishes from the characin family. To make up for that, I keep Tetragonopterus argenteus since last Thursday. It took me two months to discover they weren't T. argenteus, but Ctenobrycon spilurus. Mind you, they were very small. Anyway, I don ...

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Did you have all your species in a separate tank ?? Nope. I've been downsizing quite a bit in the past few years and I currently own one tank. All the auchenipterids lived in there, obviously -) As I desperately wanted to keep some visible fishes for a change, I combined them with cyprinids, which ...

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
The Trachelyopterichthys taeniatus and the Auchenipterichthys coracoideus also have found a new home :) Hello Rob, I'm really happy for my former fishes that they are all going to live at your place. Given what you've done to the Trachelyopterus spec. 3, I doubt that there would have been a better ...

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Hi Rob,
I was told you are also going to buy the A. punctatus.
That's a very good thing. I hoped for a good home for my fishes and this hope is going to be fulfilled.
Hopefully the A. coracoideus and T. taeniatus will find good homes too.

Hello Balaji, Thanks for your concern. As I'm new to this, it's appreciated. These are not Glossogobius afaics as they don't have the pike-like beak. They seem pretty harmless diggers imho. Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Marc, this makes me sad. Me too, but on the other hand I also feel relieved. As said, I may have been keeping invisible fishes for too long and I felt I had to do something new or stop completely. I have really been thinking very hard about keeping either less individuals per species or keeping ...

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Drastic decisions ahead. If all is well, I will visit Utaka next Saturday. Not to obtain the above Ageneiosus, but to hand in my remaining auchenipterids. And as the Hypoptopoma are also on the list of outgoing fishes, this implies that I will not only have no more auchenipterids, but also no more ...

Probably a nice chance for Dutch, Belgian or German Auchenipteridae fans: Tympanopleura spec. 3, now available at Utaka, Amersfoort.
A rare find over here.
Imho this is the best aquatic store in The Netherlands, so always worth a visit.

Re: Trachelyopterus sp. (3)
Incredible! I would have sworn this was a smaller species. It might have been a matter of food competition. They were kept with a lot of larger, less shy auchenipteirds at the time. I see it over here with the Spinipterus sp. otorongo. With less competition, these are able to feed and thus grow ...

Re: Odd characin thread
I can hardly remember the time I did not keep characins. So if I may adapt the title of this thread to suit my current status: no characins, that's odd. It's good to hear from you again. I'm also very pleased with the fact that you still keep the T. sp. 3 and that they are apparently doing very well. I for one would never have expected them to grow a lot, so they must be happy at your place. As I know you as a fine photographer, I hope you can find ...

Re: Tocantinsia piresi
Where did you find that these are (also) from Rio Xingu? Afaik, they're only known from Rio Tocantins - hence the genus name. Wrt the light colouration, pls bear in mind that many freshly wildcaught species show a yellowish glow, which sadly almost always wears off after some time in captivity/the ...

Re: Trachy Trachy or some other species of Auchenipteridae
I'm afraid I can't help you wrt your questions. Looks like you already do the things I would do as well. Perhaps a large water change with water slightly cooler than the current temperature? The only thing I can suggest, is put the new fish in the tank with the two others and see how things develop ...

What a brilliant find!!
Your fish reminds me a lot of
Pls take into account that Ben's pictured specimen is very skinny and yours is very well fed.
So no definite ID, but perhaps a hint that may be useful. Anyway, what a glorious fish!

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do this long-lived thread, which more and more became a kind of blog over the years.
Given the fact that it seems worn out after nearly nine years, I think it's best to close it.

But the Midnights hang out under a piece of driftwood next to the glass with my female Green Dragon Ancistrus so I get to see them every day. That's an extra good spot, so you can also keep an eye on the Ancistrus. It could be my bad, but a combination of auchenipterids and Ancistrus never worked ...

Looking good. I'm sure you'll pull these 4 through.
You may want to add a (very) small piece of wood in that floating tank to provide some cover.
And pls don't let them out too soon. Given your other fishes I think they should double in size first - if not a bit more.

Re: Wrong ID imo
I couldn't possibly tell you which exact species, but it surely looks like an "intermedia-like" (meaning: from the intermedia-complex) species. Cylindrical body, Tatia-like proportions and very likely a forked tail with an elongated upper lobe, which means it should be a male specimen. I would ...
