My experience is that they will prefer to stay around the wood. I have a whole bunch of wood stacked up in the tank. And the panaques are rarely on the filter or on the styroform back.

Leaving the discussion aside whether or not your tank is overstocked. There are many corydoras species which are quite small and fun to look at, most are pretty hardy fish, which can stand lower temperatures. I've heard of common pleco's withstanding pretty low temperaturs, but these will also get ...

Depending on the genes of the male of course, you will only have 25% albino ofspring, if both parents are brown, but both have the albino gene.

I feed mine yams (zoete aardappel ;-)) raw. Most of my pleco's like it, but my maccus's love it! You can cook it shortly, but these guys can chew bits off a raw piece just fine.

The botia hymnophysa's that i have had, were very aggressive.

I was happier with the lohachata's. These were a lot friendlier.

Never had striata's.

How about leaving it empty?

I prefer wood stacked up to the top to having the whole bottom covered. Gives the tank more height and depth.

Mine are happy eating flakes. I do remember that it took mine about twoo weeks to adjust to his new surroundings!

Maybe yours is still shy.

What is the longest that you've kept a fish

somewhere in 1996 i bought three of these http://www.loaches.com/species_pages/botia_almorhae.html One was murdered bij a Convict breeding pair. But the other two are doing fine, I added 3 younger ones, so I have a group of 5 now. It hit me that these little fish are now over 10 years in age! They ...

Holgen in Den Haag is a store with a lot of L-numbers. http://www.xs4all.nl/~holgen/index2.htm

I know they have L204 and peckoltia vittata at the moment.

But then, that is probably pretty far from Obbicht

If you don't mind having different kinds of wood, put in many different kinds, let the fish decide what they like. You have a cool looking tank and the fish a happy, good tasting home ;-)

If you 'cover the floor' with wood, you'll have a hard time cleaning it. I try to stack the wood up against the back. Add plants in the front so there is also free swimming place near the bottom. It also gives your tank more depth. But to actually answer your question: if you use thinner pieces of ...

I used to have other plants, which the fish (especially the loaches) used to hang on the leaves.

They seem to avoid the java ferns, they dont like coming near it, but they will lie on the anubias.

Same for the small BN's, they also seem to spend less time on the java ferns.
