Can Someone sex these Peckoltia Sabaji Adults?
Hi, so one of my local stores brought in a shipment of plecos and with them is a group of 4 adult (I think) Sabaji L-075. I want to know if anyone could spot the males from the females (if any). They're kinda expensive so I'm hoping I'm able to just get a pair. There are 4 in total, I bought one of ...

Re: Fungus and a fish lice.
Thank you. So the active ingredient is one and the same as in Dimilin X. Peers seem divided on Melafix and Pimafix. Some say it did something for them, others say it's useless. Well. Throughout my career Melafix hasn't resolved any issue for me whatsoever. This is the first time I use Pimafix and ...

As for Pimafix, I don't believe it does much of anything.
Pimafix seemed to help with the secondary infection. It's supposed to act as a mild antifungal

Re: Fungus and a fish lice.
I'm reviving this thread because I faced the same problem. In my 400L pleco tank, I've noticed some white bumps on some of my fish, mainly the L-200's and my L226 had what appeared to me "swollen" odontodes. I treated for fungus but there was barely any improvement. After that I did a meth-blue dip ...

They'll come out of their hides to feed buy they're still very skittish compared to other species I've kept.

Hi, a full body shot and a bottom/side shot could tell more about what shape is your fish in. But more importantly, is it active and eating?

L. Joselimai (L264) Sexing and Possible Stressors
Hi, I got my group of 4 ~10cm Leporacanthicus Joselimai on the 19th of past November to be exact. They've been extremely shy, more than any pleco I've kept. I have enough hides for all of them but I rarely see them get out, and when I do see them they dart right back to their hides. Initially they ...

two tanks of the same size, one probe, the tanks stay at the same temp because the probe is turning BOTH sets heaters on and off. even if one heater goes into overheat it is still protected by the probe thermostat and it will still go on and off like the tank with the probe Yeah but you're walking ...

Re: The Role of Sand in a Pleco Tank
I added a thin layer of river sand and they got out of their hides immediately, I think they're pissed of or confused at first. I also added a black background in an attempt to make them feel safer. And about dithers, would a group of rainbowfish work or are they too much? Since I already have them ...

Re: The Role of Sand in a Pleco Tank
Thanks guys! I got a group of L264's close to a month ago. They are eating but they are extremely shy and would never come out when I'm near. They are in a bare bottom tank with nothing with them, would adding sand make them more or less shy? Or should I look into adding dithers (bristlenose?, a ...

Nice fish! These have been on my list for a long time Thanks! Not sure where you are located but Global Fish Co in NJ has gotten fish from this genus a few times that i can remember, some very large specimens in the past. Apreciate that but that's 3 continents away lol. So I'm guessing they're wild ...

Re: How many of you leave fry with daddy?
It is very common practice to strip daddy of his eggs or fry and put them in a tumbler - especially for L046. But how many of you do NOT do this? How many of you leave the eggs and fry with daddy and let him raise them? I've tried to let the males raise fry naturally for as long as I've owned fish ...

The Role of Sand in a Pleco Tank
So I was wondering is there a benefit to adding sand to a pleco setup vs keeping it bare bottom? That is fine river sand or similarly sized filter sand not gravel or coarse sand (those are a nightmare to keep clean). I know it would contribute to the total surface area of the tank and provide for ...

Re: Heater for pricy plecos
I only use heaters with a controller. Ink bird is a great, inexpensive one. All heaters fail and a small investment safeguards. I second that. I use the itc-2000's on most of my tanks (you need to do your own wiring), or the prewired ones those are also good. I think now they make an aquarium ...

Re: German Fish Foods
With regard to your point in carbohydrates in fishfood, please do remember, the vegitarian plecos mostly eat algae. Now I'm not aware of the precise content of algae, but I would assume they are a lot like most other plants, that is they will contain carbohyudrates, as starch, as an energy source ...

BTW what about the other characteristics like head/body shape, fin shape and vents? L226 possible pair confirmation (sexing)
This really nice "pair" of L226's (Panaqolus Changae) is offered at my local store. The guy says they might be a pair but can't guarantee, as they are wild imports. I'm assuming the first one is a male because of the "hair" on body especially on the tail, also he's quite a bit larger than the other ...

I have lots of duckweed in my pond. Thinking of trying to feed them to my bristlenose. Anybody tried feeding it to their plecos? I'' planning to dry some then grind it to Powder. Anybody tried this? I haven't tried it but I don't see why it wouldn't work. You could also grind it wet in a food ...

Re: Bloated Female Ancistrus
Do you know what could have caused such a swelling of the bruch in the female Ancitrus? This could happen due to the fact that eggs stagnated in the belly and the female could not sweep away eggs due to poor conditions in the aquarium, as low water temperature could contribute to this. Once this ...

Re: L226? Identification & Sexing
Top and bottom views are not going to ID them. We'll need good photos of whole fish from side to show barring pattern, and a photo that shows the face better. It's true that old specimens can have the scroll on the face seem to break up as the lines get so close, but you should still see hints of ...

L226? Identification & Sexing
I bought these 2 a while back not knowing what they were, do they look like L226's and what sex are they? They lack the "wormline pattern" on their face, or it's just that I can't see it. I hope these pics are usable because boy they are hard to photograph for some reason, (note the line spacing of ...

Re: Bloated Female Ancistrus
Hi Redrain, Sorry for your loss. I've lost a few plecos that looked bloated. In my experience, by the point they are bloated, there is little or nothing I can do. Of course, your autopsied fish shows no details to be helpful, other than the fact that I see no real intact organs. I presume you ...
