L-264 Pic (179kb)

http://www.prodejayautosales.com/chico/l264.jpg I got him on 11-28-02. He's a very slow growing fish. He's about 2 inches, and he was only about 1 inch when I got him. I'm still new to photographing fish, so you will see better pics in the future. BTW: The pictures looks a little brownish because ...

Cichlasoma managuense ate my Lipsarcus Pardalis?

Is it possible for a cichlasoma managuense to eat a lipsarcus pardalis? The managuense is around 6 - 7inches and the lipsarcus pardalis is around 3 1/2 - 4 inches. At first I thought the pardalis was just hiding in a really good spot, so I didn't pay much attention to it. I cleaned the tank today ...

Shane In "Venezuelan Diary : Part 13 : Rio Santo Domingo / Rio Tinaco Part 1" you said, " Filtration should be very gentle such as that provided by a sponge filter." live plant & cory question

I just got 3 more live plants for my 10 gallon. A couple of the leaves came off when I was putting the plants in the tank. I left the leaves laying on the sand because I liked the way it looked, it made the tank look even more natural. Is it safe to let just let the leaves stay there and decompose ...

I decided to keep the set up I have and get some live plants. I was getting too many conflicting arguements, so I thought I would just experiment with what I have. My question now is about the pots. I got a Cryptocoryne Ciliata and a Echinodorus Osiris (Melon Sword). The lady at the LFS told me I ...

I should have added that I'm completely new to sand and live plants. The grain of the sand is very fine. Should I take out the sand and get thicker grain sand? I was thought that if you move the sand around about once a week you could you could avoid the anaerobic gasses. I planned on getting mostly ...

live plants and sand

My tank is finally cycled, so I went to the LFS to get some live plants. The guy at the LFS told me I shouldn't have live plants with sand. Is this true? I'm almost positive i've seen tanks with live plants and sand before. If I took out about half of the sand and added gravel will this help keep ...

What are some other ways to prevent this gas build up? I plan on getting 2 Microgeophagus ramirezi and 2-3 corys. I doubt these fish are going to move the sand enough to get rid of the trapped air. Also, I have about 2-2.5in. of sand. I'm starting to think this is too much. How deep should my ...

first attempt at sand

I'm gonna give sand a try. I've never tried it before, but i've been reading up on it a little. I've read that a lot of people use play sand. Is all play sand the same? Is it necessary to clean the sand? The sand I got has a powdery residue, so I know it has to be cleaned. I was thinking of just ...

It will eventually sink. You could also try putting the bloodworms/brine shrimp in your net, running it through some water, and then put it in your tank. It should sink right away.

Butterfly pleco (NOT L-168)

I saw a real small, cheap ($3) butterfly pleco, and I wanted to do a little research on it. I don't know its scientific name, and when I look up butterfly pleco in the Cat-eLog or in google I keep seeing L-168. The fish is real small, about 1 inch. He looks like a flounder with a tail. Does anyone ...

They're not ugly, just a little weird looking. Did you get it at a LFS, or did you collect him/her yourself? Are they rare? If you weren't sure of what species it is, it leads me to believe they must be hard to find.

Blue channels should be kept in ponds to keep them happy. They get way to big for your average aquarium, especially a 29 gallon tank. He's already to big for your tank.

How about some zamora (wood) cats [ Auchenipterichthys Thoracatus ]. They do well in planted tanks, but you may want to throw at least one piece of driftwood in there for them. There are also plenty of loricariidae to choose from: bristlenose, bulldod (rubbernose) pleco, leporacanthicus ... You ...

I guess I have no choice but to be patient. Should I continue doing frequent water changes until it clears up (3-4 times a week), or should I slow down on the water changes. I used to do a water change twice a month.
