Re: Time to Euthanize??

Thanks, everyone, for your responses. To answer some of your questions: Yes to frequent larger water changes Yes, to isolation Yes, to good diet I, too, keep thinking it must be something wrong with the water. I suppose it could be something outside of the typical water parameters, say for instance ...

Re: Time to Euthanize??

I know it's difficult to tell me what to do in this situation, but can anyone tell me what he/she would do under similar circumstances?

Re: Corydoras Concussion?

Sorry for your loss. It is refreshing to see how closely you bond with your fish. People think I'm weird for how I bond with mine. And I do believe they grieve. They are living, feeling critters after all. :)

I was having the same issue with perfect water parameters. I hope you find better answers than I did. If I find out anything, I will post it for you.

Re: Time to Euthanize??

Hi cowboyish1, Sorry for the loss. I'm sure it's no fun for you, and especially not for the fish. As to your question, I can't tell you whether it is or is not time to euthanize, that decision is really up to you. Yes, I know lots of people use clove oil; there are other options (anesthetics) but ...

Time to Euthanize??

Hello all. I have been battling chronic fin rot with a lot of 3 corydoras similas. The problem affected only the 3 I recently purchased. All others have been unaffected. 2 of the 3 have died. The one remaining obviously has a strong will to survive, but she is down to just spikes for her pectoral ...

Need Good Home for 4 Corydoras Similis - Ventura County

Hi. I'm looking for a good, EXPERIENCED Ventura County home for 4 Corydoras Similis (3 juveniles and one about 2 years old). Looking for experienced Cory people only. If you have other C. similis, that would be perfect. If interested, tell me about your setup and your experience, water parameters ...

Re: Chronic Cory fin rot problems

If water parameter testing is done weekly, and the tests always show 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and low nitrates (5-10ppm), could it still be a microbial biological filtration issue?

Re: Ragged Dorsal and Pectoral Fins

No air pump, but the integrated filter does do a good job of moving the water and causing surface movement.

Re: Ragged Dorsal and Pectoral Fins

Hmmm...I'm not sure I like the sound of that. How does one vacuum sand without sucking up the sand. I think fish are beyond my knowledge, and I feel bad that I got these. Poor guys! I'm not sure what to do now. If it's an "anaerobic condition," do I start all over?

Re: Ragged Dorsal and Pectoral Fins

The first picture in Mol_PMB's "Chronic Cory fin rot problems" posting showing a cory with a chunk out of its top fin looks very similar to the issue with one of mine. I did not see this posting until after I posted. Sorry if same issues.

Re: Chronic Cory fin rot problems

I just posted a similar issue with c. similas. The top fin on the one picture you posted is very similar to what's going on with mine. I'm stumped. I hope we both find answers.

Ragged Dorsal and Pectoral Fins

I sure hope someone can help me with this. Within the past couple of weeks, the dorsal and pectoral fins of my 3 younger c.similas have become ragged. One of the the pectoral fins on one of them is down to a spike :(. The 2 older kiddos are fine. Tails seems unaffected. Here are the specifics of my ...

GH AND KH for Corydoras

What are the acceptable or optimal GH and KH ranges for Corydoras, specifically c. Similis? My GH is around 125; KH is around 89. Acceptable? TDS reads 211 (which is close to expected given the above numbers). Should they be lower? Thanks! :d

Aquarium Stocking Level

Hello all. First post. I love the corydoras. My favorite is the Corydoras Similis. I currently own just a small 12 gallon tank, an Eclipse System 12 with a separate Nitrate Filter. The filtration in the tank is quite nice, and it does provide a bit of a current. The tank is planted and has several ...
