Re: URGENT: Please help, sick skunk cory
The redness is an ammonia burn, the white film is the fish producing a slime coat to try to protect itself from the ammonia. If you dose Prime in a 3 to 4 times dose it can help. When you vacuumed the gravel did you get a lot out? If so do it again. It sounds like you have an infection started so ...

Re: Aquarium Stocking Level
I would increase the water changes to 4 to 5 gallons once a week. 6 corys is enough cats, maybe add a BN pleco for algae control. The 6 Danios would be good, and 6 of the hardier tetras for mid water. Have fun, Harry

Re: Is my plecos tail going to fall off?
I know I'm going to be thrashed on for this post, but what I did when I ran into this crud that came in on wild plecos ( I was an importer for many years) I would take the fish out and try to scrape the crud off with my fingernail, and then dab some macurochrome on the wounded area, being careful ...

Re: Synodontis with injuries?
I had a problem with melafix a week ago. all the fish started breathing hard and were at the surface. Luckily I caught it in time and did two 50% H2O changes and didn't lose a fish. I have always found a light dose of salt( 1 tsp per 10 gallons) works well to aid in cleaning a wound and help heal it ...

Re: Feeding my Otocinclus
Adam if you had a master kit within 2 weeks of setting up your new tank your a very quick learner. And yes your right the water does not hold the cycle, it's what it's filtered thru. You can take a seasoned filter put it on a new tank and in a few days have a tank that will hold most fish nicely. I ...

Re: Feeding my Otocinclus
Nitrate is a product of nitrite and older water. If you do h2o changes on a regular basis I find nitrate not to be a problem. If you have high nitrates your not doing enough water changes. I try to keep things as simple as I can. If your trying to breed some types of fish or shrimp, then your right ...

Re: Feeding my Otocinclus
Otos like old tanks that have been running for at leased 3 months or more. They do best in groups, and do like blanched (boiled) zucchini. But most otos are wild caught and are hard to keep happy, you didn't do anything wrong, the fish was not meant to live. If you post the L x W x H of the tank I ...

Re: Want advice: how to set up a 75 gal tank's filtration system for Panaqolus
Hi, I set up a 75 gallon with 2 SunSun 304b canisters, with sponge filters on the intakes. The tank stays crystal clear and my TDS stays around 200. You can pick the filters up for around $80 each. I ran a fish store for almost 30 years, and have sold several thousand canister filters. For the money ...

What kind of plec would do best with african cichlids
I asked about BN plecs in another post, and from the feed back I got that BN would be lucky if they stayed alive with Africans. Is there a better plec or any kind of algae eating fish that would do well with African cichlids? Thanks, Harry

How long do BN plecs live
I'm new to BN plecs, and I think this web site is a gift to newbies as well as the experts. I am learning a lot from the feed back, and articles on this site. My question is, what is the average life span on BN plecostomus? Harry

Re: BN plecs and african cichlids
Thanks for your reply, I'm going to put some wood in. One thing you need to watch in your tank is when the Africans get older, they get much more aggressive with each other and start singling each other out. That's why too many is a good thing. They can't pick a fish to kill as easy. Thanks again ...

BN plecs and african cichlids
Hi, I'm new to the site and don't know much about plecs. I have a 360 gallon tank with about 150 Africans, most of which 3 to 5 inches, lots of rocks and hiding places. Would a 2.5 to 3 inch BN be able to live in this tank? If I put them in, I'd do about 12 (safety in numbers) I think, but don ...
