On normal conditions the ammonia produced because of feeding (fish waste and uneaten food) is consumed by the bacteria. As your tank is still being cycled, it is likely to raise your ammonia levels a bit. On the other hand, I think that not feeding the fish until your tank is cycled is impractical ...

Great news! His fin growing back is a sign that things are not too bad, or even fine. I think you can now take things a little bit more easy, as it's up to him doing the rest. If ammonia/nitrites levels don't go up, you can stop doing water changes on a daily basis and let the tank finish cycling by ...

Inflammation of the gill is more serious than the fin. I don't think the Melafix would help with that. I think that the best thing to do in that case is a salt dip as it will most probably clear the inflammation without having to try out different medicals until something works and I'm not a big fan ...

If your ammonia and nitrite levels are high then it is more stressful for the fish if you don't do anything about it. As Troi suggested, using AmQuel Plus or Prime will detoxify the ammonia and nitrites and make them safe for the fish until they are consumed by the bacteria. If you use either of ...

When I first bought my cories I had a rather large gravel which is intended to use in ponds, and not all of it was round and some looked a bit sharp. One of the fish then got a barbel erosion, but it has nothing to do with the gravel as I got a really sick batch (3 out of the 5 died within 24 hours ...

Hi Will.
I assume that your tank is about a couple of weeks old, and even if it was cycled properly, ammonia and nitrite levels still might rise after adding fish. The cycle might last some time, depends whether it was cycled before or not. In the meantime you have to help the fish with the ammonia ...

Thanks Barbie and Sirbooks. I actually bought the chinese algae eater because I was led to believe tha they are the siamese algae eater. It will move soon, when I get the chance to do it, as it's quite hard to catch and I don't want to cause a commotion at the moment. Unlike the ancistrus, they lack ...

Mine loves cucumbers and zucchinis. Although it doesn't seem to like the skin, it does like them unpeeled, if that makes sense (neither does the fish, by the way). I once tried feeding it with Wakame (dried japanese sea weed), but it didn't like it.

Thanks for the tips Mats. I don't know if they will help me in the current situation, but in the future, if I get stressed, I think that rearranging the furniture might do me good.

I thought I'd post an update in case anyone ever has the same problem and searches the forums and find this post... I hope it can help.
Since posting my question, at first there had been a decline in the fish's state. I was shocked to find my pleco sucking eagerly on the cory's spot one day, as if ...

C. Trilineatus losing colours
Hello everyone. I hope you can help me with my problem.
I have 4 C. Trilineatus (although labeled at store as Julii)and one of them is not quite right. His problem is that he seems to be losing his colours on his body behind his gills. When I first noticed that it was only on one side of his body ...
