Re: Salt vs Cory

Bumping a super old thread while researching another subject, rabbit holed my way into this thread. Magnesium is often used orally as a supplement for people who are magnesium deficient, but also very commonly used as a laxative. There is no documentation that it can be absorbed thru skin. So Epsom ...

Re: Pygmy cory vs lava rock and cyclops.

My Hastatus seem to be fine without dithers if the Cory group is large enough. Smaller groups seem to be more sensitive to movement and end up hiding more. Im guessing Cory fry must be prey items for the Apistos, as the colony stopped producing new babies like they were in the past prior to the ...

Re: Pygmy cory vs lava rock and cyclops.

Darrel
my Apistogrammas were outcompeting my Hastatus and I was losing Hastaus fry. I separated them and the Hastatus have slowly recovered. Just an observation in my fishroom.

I’ve got about 35 Sterbai...... and yes you can have too many. All they do is eat and poop. And poop.

Re: Corydoras Hastatus eggs!

All the reading and emailing I’ve done on this species seems to point to the fact that these Cories are easier to breed in a group or colony setup. The adults of the species of Corydoras will leave fry alone, and as long as there are no predators and there is plenty of plants in the tank, you should ...

Re: Who is breeding C. Eques

Mine are doing the same for a week. I have a group of nine. Several fat females, several males, and several I’m not sure. Several water changes ago, I started giving frozen blood worms, live black worms, and insect pellets as a change from other more bland pellet diet for last two months. Then we h ...

Re: C. hastatus fry

If the tank is heavily planted the fry will survive. It’s super hard to target feed the fry. So let nature take its course and make sure that there are a lot of plants. Emphasis on plants. Parents will eat blackworms, which always seems to cause a spawn cycle for me. I do weekly 50% water changes, ...

Re: Peppered Cory Fry Dying, Literally Right Away

You might have to choose between a happy snail, and Cory fry. If you continue to try to provide for the snails needs, you may be lacking in what your corys need. Peat, if fresh can be locking up some of the minerals in the special water your buying. If you want Cory babies then I would suggest using ...

Re: Panda Corys

Do the Corydoras have and red on the belly area? You may be dealing with bacteria growing in the slime that accumulates on the bottom of a bare-bottom tank. I would try a thin layer 1/4 inch or so of sand. It sucks that you lost a bunch, but focus on saving the last three. And make sure no other ...

Re: Sexing Corydoras hastatus.

Mine only started to show differences in sex once fed heavily on live foods. They all looked exactly alike, then with addition of live foods the ladies started to swell and started to produce eggs. Once mature, the ladies are round and fat. Males seem to stay slender and much smaller.

Re: Pygmaeus flashing

Water stability is the main issue. Don't drop or raise ph if not needed. And water changes could be heavier weekly(50%). I would try about 20% every couple of days to see how things are reacting. If they get better your on the right track. If not, then you have only helped the system by removing ...

Re: Breeding attempt for habrosus

Try live food. I had a huge colony 30+ dwindle down to about 10. In fact I have them in two tanks. One group in big tank seems to be ok (about 10 also) I feed live black worms and they have fattened up quite a bit. I agree species only seems to work best with them. I keep cherry shrimp with them ...

Who is breeding C. Eques

I have two wild caught adults that I purchased. Looking for a few more for a species only breeding attempt. The hastatus use all levels of water. My group does sit on the bottom a lot.
I too keep pygmies and Hasbrosus.

Re: Can I keep Corydoras pygmaeus and habrosus together

I keep both together in my breeding colony. No problems. And don't think they will interbreed.

And even if you purchased from three different stores, the stores could possibly be using the same wholesaler. So might all come from same stock.
