Re: Do Butterfly Plecos NEED driftwood?

Driftwood often leeches tannins which will lower the pH somewhat. I have lots of it in all of my pleco tanks and they seem to like it. The lower pH is closer to what they would have in the amazon.

It depends on the number of breeders you want to put in there and about the sex ratio. 1-2 Males and 3-4 females should be ok in my opinion.
Does the same go for ancistrus with cories?

Re: German Super Red Bristlenose Plecos

I normally get 30-60 from my adult females, but I only have about 5 deformed ones out of around 500 fish from those pairs. So 1/100 have some sort of deformity.

Seems that it has just been this last generation, and it's not even in every brood, maybe one deformed fish every 3 broods.

That would be great. I have some nice young males I'd like to get some females for if possible.

Would one or two fish with deformities is in each batch be consistent with inbreeding? That is about what has been happening to me.

Thanks.

Re: German Super Red Bristlenose Plecos

They are a line bred species. "Opening" the gene pool is really going to still be a line breeding, isn't it? I know a few people with really good clean red lines of Super Reds in the US. Are you having an issue with your group that makes you think they need a gene infusion?

German Super Red Bristlenose Plecos

Hi everyone,

I am facing a dilemma, I need to add some new broodstock to my super red bn line to improve the genetic pool, but I want to get nicer fish than can be gotten in the US. Mine are German and a great deep red/orange and I just don't see that in most US fish.

Where in Germany (or ...

I'm 15 and I think my max was around 24 tanks, I currently have 17 going, all of which have plecos. I feel rather small compared to all of your grand tanks. I only have 1 14.6 gallon, 1 6 gallon and 2 5 gallon tanks. Plus most species of non cory catfish (except like common ones) cannot be found here. But, still i have to remember Im only 13! :))

You could remove the cave once you want them to stop spawning.

Is it hard to find BN's in the UK? Over here in the US you can often get them for free or just a few bucks at pretty much any store or club meeting.

Re: Intention to buy a group of wild caught Panoquolus Abolmaculatus LDA 031. Need Advice on Deworming/parasite treatmen

One thing that you may want to stick some BNs in with them because during transit they will have lost all of the bacteria in their stomachs that they use to breakdown wood. They can regain that bacteria from the BNs poop.

As for deworming I would recommend Fenbendazole, it is the same as what they ...

I would advise that you just go ahead and use all three for fish. Using a step stool really isn't that bad. If you have the bottom tank a little lower than it shouldnt be as hard yo access the top one. You will probably regret it if you don't have that tank space available. I have tanks stacked 4 ...

What size is the tank? I've found a pair of adults of the same species (Common BN) really need a minimum of 24x12x12

When you mix species the tank needs to be a bit bigger - good advice above from bekateen which should work but the restricted space may be a problem & any changes may result in a ...

Re: Almost certain that my ABNs have spawned.???

Takes about 5-7 days for mine to hatch. I normally leave them in their cave for 10-14 days from spawn, so by that point the male has done the hard part and all I have to do is feed the babies. I have tried both ways and have found that it just makes a lot more sense to let nature do its thing rather ...
