I kept a group for about 5-6 years about 20 years ago. Sounds like I need to write that up! I didn't breed them, but they were fun and easy to keep.

I personally would add him to the tank. Monitor it and see if it eats when you feed it. Look at the poop and see if it looks off or stringy etc. I would also keep the temps on the warmer side 82- to also speed up the metabolism and make the fish want to eat more frequently

Yes, over the years from the linage they throw orange. i have a friend who has been line breeding them for years and have a ton of them that are orange instead of the normal red.
