Hi, I use oak leaves. I wash them well then give them a few moments in the microwave to kill any bacteria, then they go into the tank, in a steel clip, or dry completely in a warm place than air tight bags for storage for use in the summer when cannot get brown leaves.

Gold stripe panaque breeding

Hi, your cat-e-log info on Gold stripes, shows it has nor been updated since 2003. Which may explain why it says breeding not reported. I have bred several broods now and also know of others on the web who have bred them. here is mums tail with two young nearby (and a young BN) http://i116 ...

interesting what you suggest about temp, Shane. I have a pair of common BNs which I had kept at the cooler temp PC says but they were shy and not breeding, so I read lots of different articles and found many owners recommended a higher temperature. such as [url]http://www.plecos.com/art_wiiliam ...

sorry she is ill, I think they live loneger than that, not sure what you mean by common ancistrus - here our common BNs are brown not black. dont what is ailing her but I would add some natural treatment such as melafix to help her heal and primafix for good measure - as these are plant extracts ...

sorry about your loss,
I would guess it was shock of moving from the shop to your tank.
maybe your tank is a little cold, common BNs like it around 27 degrees to be comfortable.

hi, do you have more than one in the tank?
I dont think one would become gravid after two years unless there is a male around?

Hi, I have some plant pots as well as home made terracotta caves where I bought the clay, made them and had them fired. I have had no problems. one of my BNs got a red sore on the end of its nose which I thought might be from the edge of a PVC tube where the edges are a little rough, but it healed ...

Hi,
I lost a few corys to mystery bacterial infection, I treated the tank with Melafix and Primafix together and this saved the rest of them.
no idea what makes the swim funny other than some kind of "swim bladder" infection.
good luck

hi, hello. glad you like your new fish. I have some starlight bristle noses which change shade a lot, sometimes mood or often what they are sitting on (pale sand or dark wood). sometimes they (and my other plecs) do this jumping you describe - I call it "head butting an invisible wall" and wondered ...

hi, dont own any (yet) but LFS has just got 8 shipped in- a good size, about 5 inches. these are the first I have seen in the flesh. these are dark , but not jet black, but with a slight blue hue, the spots are supposed to be powder blue but they are virtually white. I would not describe it as a ...

my worse loss/mistake was recently I bought a group of 6 L129 plecs plus 2 L270 choc zebras plecs (very similar fish but L128 are smaller) and transported them a long way home (bought so many as not likely to find locally -but NOT cheap). Put them in a "new" tank - well I took the bio filter sponges ...

thanks, I was using liqufry and micro worms. I was keeping the fry in a net cage suspended in a big tank, this way the liquifry sank through the net after about an hour.
