Hi, I use oak leaves. I wash them well then give them a few moments in the microwave to kill any bacteria, then they go into the tank, in a steel clip, or dry completely in a warm place than air tight bags for storage for use in the summer when cannot get brown leaves.

interesting what you suggest about temp, Shane.

I have a pair of common BNs which I had kept at the cooler temp PC says but they were shy and not breeding, so I read lots of different articles and found many owners recommended a higher temperature.

sorry she is ill, I think they live loneger than that, not sure what you mean by common ancistrus - here our common BNs are brown not black.
dont what is ailing her but I would add some natural treatment such as melafix to help her heal and primafix for good measure - as these are plant extracts ...

I would guess it was shock of moving from the shop to your tank.
maybe your tank is a little cold, common BNs like it around 27 degrees to be comfortable.

I lost a few corys to mystery bacterial infection, I treated the tank with Melafix and Primafix together and this saved the rest of them.
no idea what makes the swim funny other than some kind of "swim bladder" infection.

yes shop around for sand but put under magnifying glass to see of rounded or sharp of you have corys etc that sieve sand.
I was told by a LFS to use builders' silver sand -cheap in big bags - but it was so filthy when I came to wash it -I was not going to trust it on my fish!

I was keeping the fry in a net cage suspended in a big tank, this way the liquifry sank through the net after about an hour. I have no way of knowing if they ate any worms as they just disappear into the water, so I was adding a paintbrush tip full every ...
