L27 Xingu Platinum
Hi all, Recently came across a stunning Xingu platinum that appears pure black and white. I've had an L27 Xingu for roughly 5 years now that is generally brown and black but does boost the contrast at times. I'm curious if the "platinum" are marketing bs or if they are in fact a color morph ...

It's been around much longer than that. I guess it's not ammonia burn.
Any ideas?

Re: Has anyone seen this before?
I don't believe so. It seems the fish arrived from the wholesaler like this. I did just see updated pictures and the front third has darkened quite a bit. The very white areas are still washed out.

Has anyone seen this before?
I've been thinking of buying this L273 but I've got no idea what's going on with it's color. It had been suggested that this is the result of ammonia burn. If so, and if the fish is otherwise healthy, should it return to it's original colors? If this isn't ammonia burn, anyone know what's going on ...

Re: FS - Plecos, Rapaehls & Geos
Updating post.
I'd still like to find a home for my female L253. I believe she's probably over 9".
Would like $150 for her.
I also have a Megalodorus Uranoscopus that's roughly 12". I'd like $50.

Re: L273 Red vs Gold
Resurrecting this in hopes of getting a bit more input from the 273 experts here. Was at a LFS over the weekend and came across this guy IMG_5224.jpeg The dealer told me it was a "gold". It's certainly a bit different looking than my current L273, which I assume is "red". IMG_5566.jpeg I really like ...

Re: L007 sex and nose.
Definitely looks snub to me. I don't have a clue how bad it may be but it certainly isn't a good thing.
I've had small leporacanthicus in the past and none had heads like that.
No offense but if you're trying to sex them to breed, I would not breed that fish.

Re: Rhinelepis Aspera vs Strigosa?
Thanks so much for the input. I'd read about the difference in texture but really can't see any in the videos of the fish that were sent to me. The only difference that I can see is that one is dark green and the other is black. It appears that the green fish had 7 soft rays in it's dorsal while the ...

Rhinelepis Aspera vs Strigosa?
I've got a pair of 4" juvenile Rhinelepis available to me but it's not clear which species they are.
Does anyone know of a way to determine one from the other at such a small size?
Any info is appreciated as I've not found a whole lot out there.

Re: fungus(?) on my new whip
I recently ordered a pair of L27 Teles Pires. One arrived with a broken tail and some scuffs which resulted in similar growth like your whiptail. Before trying all sorts of medications, I simply treated with aquarium salt for a couple of weeks which worked wonders. I'd give that a shot before more ...

Re: Different between Blue eyes Panaques
As I understand it, Blue Eye Royal is basically just a common marketing name. Venezuelan Blue Eye is Panaque Suttoni. It's far less common and potentially more expensive. I've heard it's more aggressive but I've not owned one so can't speak to that. Colombian Blue Eye is Panaque Cochliodon. Somewhat ...

After purchasing what I was told was a gold titanic, which was in very poor condition a couple of months ago I've been searching for a new specimen. Lucked out this weekend and bought a stunning 7" titanic that's a gorgeous vibrant red color from head to tail. I've always heard there were two ...

I used it a couple of years ago when I had a situation with callamanus worms.
Ordered from Charles Harrison, I believe he included dosing instructions. Worked like a charm.

L096 variations
I recently purchased an L096. All of the specimens I've seen have either looked like traditional L160 but with lighter lobes of the tail and the first ray of the dorsal or more of an orange/brownish color all over with slightly lighter fins. This one is dark, almost a grayish purple and no spots. I ...

Re: Strange behavior with L25
I typically rearrange the layout every month in hopes of preventing territories from forming. I'll do a big rescape tomorrow. The only larger plecos in there are my l330 and Panaque Cochliodon. Each tend to mind their own business though and only ever seem to notice each other. I think I've only ...

Strange behavior with L25
Roughly 4 months ago I finally got my hands on a 7-point L25. When purchased it was about 9", healthy and active. It's only bad habit was that it would try to wedge it's self behind my filtration pipes. A couple of times while doing this, it actually wedged it's self in the small opening behind the ...

Treating malnourished L273
A couple of days ago I came into possession of an L273 in really rough shape. Apparently the store that had it initially put it in a tank full of L114, which beat it badly. They separated it and it's been slowly healing. That said, it's belly, eyes and area behind it's head are all very sunken. The ...

Re: Mystery Pseudacanthicus - LDA07?
Jim, this is very interesting. I appreciate your input. I'd always assumed, I guess incorrectly, that each variation would one day be described as a different species. I suppose I'm a splitter. I've read the posts in the past about testing the DNA but never saw anything as to the result. I'm ...

Re: Mystery Pseudacanthicus - LDA07?
the only thing i can think it would be is a L114 with a odd pattern. While I suppose you could be correct, the tail markings/pattern here is quite different that what I'm used to seeing on most every L114 I've encountered in person. The two other fish that were in with this one were, though not as ...

Re: Mystery Pseudacanthicus - LDA07?
I've read that LDA07 is L144 but have also read that it's L600. Don't know the reality. From what I've seen, the LDA07 looks more like the L600 but usually has a bit of a grey base where the L600 is more green. I don't know if thats a coincidence from fish to fish or a defining factor. I wasn't ...

Mystery Pseudacanthicus - LDA07?
Recently one of my local shops got in a small batch of what they're calling L114. I've had an L114 in the past and this isn't the same fish. There were three in the store, all a bit different but I bought one that was particularly different in color and markings. I'm hopeful one of the experts here ...

Interesting. How large were they and how was your tank set up? I've heard so many conflicting stories on putting more than one together. My ~10" tried to take my big l330's spot but was quickly put in its place with no harm done. Have some rescaped and added a lot more wood. There have been zero ...

Multiple Panaque Cochliodon
About a month ago I picked up a beautiful Panaque Cochliodon. I had a bit of concern from what I'd heard about their supposed aggression that it would fight with my other royals and various larger plecos. I added the fish along with a lot more wood to my tank and fortunately have been issue free ...
