C. cf schwartzii - all females?
My best guess is that I managed to get nine females! I've had these for almost two years and no hint of spawning activity. What do you think? Are any of these males? See here for the ID discussion: http://planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12875 Thanks! Mike http://www.microsmithinc.com/fish/C ...

Re: My Hoplosternum littorale spawned 1-1-08 with pictures
Vickey, From the small size of the bubble nest it may be a first spawn and a lack of experience for the fish. Set them up again and see what you get. Here is the size nest I would expect to see: http://www.gcas.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4645&highlight=bubble+nest This nest filled as least 1/3 of a ...

These fish are now breeding regularly for me. From the various comments above and other reading, I'm leaning towards duplicareous. but... Ian Fuller's breeding reports list the egg size to be similar to paleatus. These eggs are much larger. 50% larger? probably twice the volume. And these are very ...

Black gold sholder aneaus?
Bought these last night at the LFS from the aneaus tank. Very dark, almost black with a bright short gold stripe on the sholder. I put them in a tank with light gravel thinking they would probably lighten up, but they still just as black. So what are they? http://www.microsmithinc.com/fish ...

Corydoras duplicareus or C. adolfoi
These were sold to me as axelrodi, but clearly are not. These three fish are spawning, but so far no fry. The eggs are a bit larger than typcial corys and have a brown/yellow tint. I only find 6-10 at time. Are these duplicareus or adolfoi or some of each? Sorry for the bad pics, but they like to ...

You are right. The ads were the problem. In particular this one: pagead2.googlesyndication.com I have no objections to ads and ad revenue, just to big graphics, Flash and slow loading links that make a page load forever. As this one appears to be just text, I have removed it from the "bad list" of ...

Cory egg masses and above the water line?
I had a first spawn of Peru Gold Shoulder / Corydoras aeneus schultzii. No one seems to agree on the name of these. They are also called Gold Stripe, but are not the "Laser" corys. What was interesting about this spawn was the where I found the eggs. This is the first time I have found cory eggs ...

Hi, Recently the forum menu has been almost completely hidden by the main site menu. I can just barely see the bottoms of the letters in each of the forum menu boxes. The first box of the forum menu is hidden behind the Cat-eLog box. No recent changes in my Windows setup. IE 6.0, 1280 x 1024 Thanks ...

sexing b. multiradiatus
First of all, I'm assuming I'm correct in the ID of these fish: b. multiradiatus, the Long Nosed or Hog Nosed brochis. The nose is right and the dorsal has 17 rays. One of the books I have shows a picture of a pair of these with one fish with a high dorsal (as seen in the picture below) and one with ...

Just a follow up and blind and black corys... About six months ago I ran across another blind and black cory. (not the one pictured above) He has since changed colors. two fish from a "spotted cory" tank
Ran across these two fish in a "spotted cory" tank. I've never seen a cory with large dots like these. The one on the right is a bit odd due to the horizontal stripes in the dorsal.
So what are these?
Thanks
Mike

A non-laser striped aeneus?
I have seen these at several of the LFS being sold as common aeneus at $3 a fish. The closest I have found in Fuller's latest book is on page 53 and labeled: " Corydoras aeneus , aquarium specimen, 'Corydoras schultzei' " In addition to the stripe, several of them have a green metallic hue in the ...

More than one type of pygmaeus?
I've had a group of pygmaeus for a while that show the darker top body. Two months ago I got some wild pygmaeus that are light bodied. At first I thought it was from the stress from shipping, but they have never changed. Just a color variation? My plan was to add this new group to the existing ...

A bonus from the "spotted cory" tank
I find some of the most interesting things in tanks marked "spotted corys" and "julii". Tonight I found a tank with fifteen mixed corys, a few trilineatus, one schwartzi and two species I have never seen before. I bought the whole tank as I could not bear the thought of them trying the catch, and ...

long nosed trilineatus - leopardus ??
Found these in a tank marked "julii" (of course) In addition to the long nose, these fish are at least 1/2" longer than the average adult trilineatus. The closest I've found so far is the third picture for leopardus in "Identifying Corydoradinae Catfish". But the center line is much thicker on these ...

Blind Cory - solid black
Hi, Found this in a local fish store tonight. What first caught my attention was the solid black, the size of the tail and that there was no hint to eyes at all. My guess is that this is a common aneaus that lost it's eyes as a fry and thinks it is in the dark or against a very dark background. I ...

Ian,
The C141 fish in your book has what looks like a larger than normal adipose fin. Is this unique to C141 or just to this particular fish?
Thanks

White fin cory?
Hi, I found an interesting cory in the LFS "Spotted Cory" tank. What stands out are the nearly white first ray of the dorsal and pectoral fins. Candidates are: C cf schwartzi (Ian Fuller's new book, page 229) C cf pulcher (Ian Fuller's new book, page 211) C schwartzi - but mine don't have the black ...

Hi, Found these being sold as Ottos in the LFS. They lightened up in the bag, but were darker with lots of small dark spots. The closest I can find is Otocinclus flexilis, but the eyes are too small and farther back. Any idea what they are? (about 1 1/2" long) http://www.microsmithinc.com/fish ...
