Re: L25 spawn at last! Update

Sad to hear that the fries didn't make it.
Apparently L25 seems more difficult to handle than the other pseuda (L600, L114 & L160).
Only about 10% survived for my last L25 spawn, dreaded the death count each day :-S and now this pair is no longer in the mood to do it again :((

Re: L25 spawned...but...

Thank you so much for replying Jim...you mentioned water stability...I must have messed it up with the many water changes because I only had water quality in mind...I had been doing a lot of water changes which had likely lead to too much fluctuation of pH and temperature. Indeed, these fries are ...

Re: Gender of L25

My tank is only 200 gallons, which is why I am reluctant to add the other 2 females.

Probably I will need to go around looking for a smaller male.

Thanks Cristoffer.

Re: Gender of L25

In fact I have another two possible females, one is 12in another would be smaller at 10in. Would adding these two gals help ease the aggression from the male?

In fact, the male would hide in it's cave; but it whenever it's out of the cave, it would started going after the others :-p .

thks

Re: Gender of L25

Thanks for replying.

Currently hoping that they would really pair up. The male is very aggressive and it will just keep chasing the female!

Wonder if the size of the male is too large at 15in, compared with female of 12in?

Thanks

the most aggressive encounter was from a 10in goldline...it whacked the h#ll out of my 14in L24....followed by further attack from a L63 (the pc feature Cat-elog, before I sold it)...the L63 bit the underbelly of the wounded L24 causing fatal injuries....the L24 was dead after a day :(( I eventually ...

Re: need help id the gender of this L25

Well.... I cant say anything looking at the head, but the pectoral fins has a lot of odontodes. As I undertand from talking to ElTofi, females don't have this kind of odontodal grow. But I would say male... but I'm suprised that the head is so small... Cristoffer thanks Cristoffer, more or less i ...

Hi It would help with photos from above, but I think this is a male. There are people (ElTofi) here that knows more about this species than I do, but I don't think that females as that kind of odontal grow. Cristoffer Forssander wrote:
Have you seen differences in the dorsal fin in L25?

In L114 males has a much more bigger dorsal "sail" than the female.

Cristoffer
indeed the gender of L25 is rather difficult to differentiate...unlike L97, L114 and even spinosus...whereby the finnages does look different.

without being the specialist Cristoffer says, I would say it's a L25, with a very pale color, due IMO to the blue bottom of the tank... I agree with Cristoffer on the explanations about gender from the body shape. Moreover, and based only on my experiences (don't ever think it's a general rule, but ...
