Re: Help! Catfish wounded!
Well, on the plus side, the bloodworms are gone. I guess the cat has been snacking on them for the past few days. There are only a few left. But I shouldn't add anymore, right? The tail is looking kind of better. There's no more red vein looking thing, but there's some sort of white fungus on it ...

Re: Help! Catfish wounded!
Wait...but if I remove the airstone (which is a sound source), then that removes oxygen from the water, which the catfish needs. Similarly, removing the frozen bloodworms will result in stress either way (either by adding ammonia, or me entering the tank). I woke up today, and the fish is still ...

Help! Catfish wounded!
Now while normally I wouldn't do this, but desperate times. I have a pictus cat (Pimelodus pictus) in a 30 gallon, and he shared it with a convict cichlid for around 3-4 years. Recently, I took out the sand of the tank, and today I noticed something. The catfish is currently upside down, and is ...

Re: Colonizing black worms
Hi, here's a link to some people's blackworm setups. I've found that if you throw in a Catappa leaf to the blackworms, it helps keep the smell down (possibly killing the bacteria that make the water cloudy and stinky?), and acts as food for the worms. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php ...

Re: Teach me about: Otocinclus vittatus/O. vestitus
Interesting, with all due respect (which is quite a lot), seriouslyfish.com says that reports of the region that D. tinwini hail from, range from 60-80 F. As for the SAE, it would only be a temporary addition, just long enough to get the otos to realize that vegetables are good for them, then it ...

Re: Teach me about: Otocinclus vittatus/O. vestitus
racoll, thank you! I've had bad experiences with this fish in the past, and decided that before I bought any more, that I would learn as much as I could about them, just to be on the safe side. In regards to the tankmates, I plan on adding Corydoras pygmaeus (9), and Danio tinwini (8) along with ...

Re: Teach me about: Otocinclus vittatus/O. vestitus
Jools, I also read that as well, but thanks anyways! At your suggestion, I did a full site search, and looked at all the links pertaining to 'Otocinclus'. Again, the same questions don't seem to have answers, and others have popped up as I've read. When I get the Otocinclus in, do I prophylactically ...

Re: Teach me about: Otocinclus vittatus/O. vestitus
All right, did a forum search, under the Husbandry&Reproduction:Loricariidae subforum, and still have the following questions: I searched "otocinclus infection" "otocinclus parasite" and "otocinclus worm" and nothing popped up on the topic of infections, bacterial, viral, or parasitic. So are there ...

Teach me about: Otocinclus vittatus/O. vestitus
I'm planning a 20 gallon soft-ish water planted tank, and can't have snails as algae eaters. I would love to know more about them (besides the fact that the ones at chain stores can't be trusted). Some basic questions I've thought of so far: They need groups, so is 6 a good number, or should I raise ...

Re: Teach me about: Corydoras pygmaeus
Ok, did a search, read the links, did more searches, and I still have questions! Can I use microworms as a diet throughout a pygmy corys life? Not as a staple, but definitely as a way to get rid of excess microworms and such. Is there any good one food for this species? I think I read somewhere that ...

Teach me about: Corydoras pygmaeus
So I have 4, maybe 5 pygmy corydoras in a 10 gallon tank. This summer, they'll be moved to a 20 gallon tank. However, I don't know nearly as much as I want to about them. So without further ado: How big do they get? How large are the adults? How long between breeding cycles? How big are the fry upon ...
