Re: Very Sick Sydontis - flesh gone! Please Help

Wow, thanks Birger! I did do the search for lateral line erosion... seems to be some conflicting opinions on how to treat... However, in a nutshell, it sounds like the OP needs to: 1.) isolate 2.) treat with Metronidazole (if accompanied by Hexamita, that needs to be addressed first) 3.) add ...

Very Sick Sydontis - flesh gone! Please Help

Hello! As I have African cichlids with my catfish, I frequent cichlid-forum.com A user on that forum added a Sydontis to his Cichlid tank recently, and didn't see him for awhile, and then posted photos of an obviously very sick catfish. I recommended he post photos on this forum, but to save time I ...

Re: Platydorus Armatulus and Epsom Salt...?

Great information, TwoTankAmin & Divemaster. :d Both answers were relevant, as Aquarium Salt was also part of the recommended bloat treatment. I had asked, and received, answers about regular aquarium salt on a previous post. In summary; I proceeded with the treatment for 5 days, consisting of the ...

Platydorus Armatulus and Epsom Salt...?

Good morning, everyone! Another salt question. Epsom salt is a common treatment, along with the antibiotic Metronidazole, for bloat in African Cichlids. I need to treat my Cichlid tank for bloat, and am wondering how this will affect my striped Raphael catfish. I also have a larger (8") pleco, but I ...

Re: WORRIED! Platydorus Armatulus and aquarium salt???

update for all the nice folks that responded... last Saturday I did a 60% WC, and the Raphs really responded positively! much more active, and even observed them coming out of their cave in the daylight to eat, which I had not seen before. Tomorrow is WC day again. I will do approx 50%, and will not ...

Re: WORRIED! Platydorus Armatulus and aquarium salt???

Thanks Everything Fish & Bas Pels... I'm definitely going to ramp down my salt usage. I do 50%-60% WC every Saturday, and this week, I will not add salt to the change out water. Then, I'll watch to see how that affects the cichlids. Then, the following Saturday, I'll do the same. So, in 8 days, I'll ...

WORRIED! Platydorus Armatulus and aquarium salt???

Good evening, and thanks in advance to anyone that reads this... I have a 75 gallon African cichlid tank. I have recently been adding aquarium salt. Approximately one slightly rounded tablespoon per 5 us gallons. It keeps the algae blooms down, and seems to be good for the cichlids, anyway. They ...
