Re: Megalechis picta loosing armour and covered in red cyst, Help needed!
Thanks for the input Bas pels, in hindsight I should have stuck with the salt but my emotions got the better of me and as will always be the case the consequence was quick to reveal its self. Part of me knew she wouldn’t make it through the night. I’ll do several 50% water changes to remove the maj ...

Re: Megalechis picta loosing armour and cover in red cyst, Help needed!
I have an update and its not great... The female seemed to recover a little after the salt treatment and water changes so I gave the tank some food and waited a day before I did another water change. In this time I noticed that she seemed to deteriorate so I did another water change last night and ...

Re: Megalechis picta loosing armour, Help needed!
Just wanted to do a quick update The female is still alive and doing fairly well, the redness has subsided but there now appear to be some translucent filaments hanging from the open wounds. It doesn't look like any bacterial infection I've ever seen before, the filaments are long and thicker than ...

Hello everyone I haven’t posted fir a while but I’m still knee deep in catfish! I’m posting because I need some advice on something that started happening to my female Megalechis picta Just now I was looking at her and I honestly though she was dead until she took off, she was lying motionless on the ...

Re: Does fish slime coat reduce pain from fish stings/venoms?
:-?? My brother Was stung by a Ariopsis felis many years ago before either of us knew about the three spikes- he attempted to push the unhooked fish back into the ocean with the sole of his foot and the spike went right to the bone. The slime of this catfish is actually the part that contains the ...

Re: New bumblebee catfish, Asian or SA?
That one of the many things I love about catfish, you can find some awesome fish hidden amongst the masses. My Pseudomystus funebris was left over from a group of Pseudomystus siamensis , my Synodontis contractus was the last of a Synodontis nigriventris order and I picked out my pair of ...

I think the acanthicus group has it for length and over all size and Panaque probably get the award for most watermelon like and can certainly obtain an impressive size.

Re: Fossil Catfish , tank mates , temperment , feeding ?
Venom in general is not something to be taken lightly- different venoms target different systems in your body and either temporarily impair them or shut them down/destroy them. I can't speak for the venom of Heteropneustes fossilis as I don't know its chemical properties or its affects on the human ...

Re: Corydoras pygmaeus with ?
I've only had Corydoras pygmaeus for a few weeks now but in my heavily planted 208 litre (under my tanks its "The over hang") the six of them live with: 11 ember tetras 3 rummy nose (was 10 but there was an incident with Microglanis iheringi before the ember tetras where added...) 4 Hypancistrus sp ...

Re: Can you tan a pleco?
As stated I don’t think it would have an impact on bottom dwellers but I could see it having an effect on a topwater species like hatchets or aros. I would imagine the wet vs dry season would also effect the clarity of the water and thus the amount of uva and uvb rays that could penetrate and affect ...

Thanks for chiming in guys! You raise a good point Eric but one of the different looking ones is the same size as one of the L129 although the majority of them are on the smaller side. I also looked at some soawning report photos for the L129 and the young ones seem to have finer white lines than ...

Re: Cory Iridescence
I would imagine its largely environmental conditions like water clarity, lights, and how the fish swims and its overall shape all come into play- I'm not sure if I would assume its genetic or that I would assume anything for that matter. If it is a polygenic trait then you would be able to produce ...

It is a fungus of sorts but it was my understanding that its harmless and that it goes away eventually as the fish cleaning it up (to no ill effect).F15CathyShark wrote: ↑23 Nov 2017, 09:35I'm actually not sure about what on them, I thought it's biofilm.....

I also have better photos of the whip tails and their ventral scales if that helps any!
I know these photos aren’t quite up to par with my usual macro photography, I’ve been putting it off but if some macro shots would help I can bring out the big guns!

So I pulled that syno out at work and looked at his mouth, I’m starting to think this is Synodontis contractus ! Re: ID’s on three very different cats
Well I actually ended up purchasing Pseudomystus funebris instead of the synodontis on the assumption that Jools is correct and it could outgrow the 8.5 gallon tank and that the movement of the Pseudomystus funebris is much slower and shark like (which is one of the main reasons I love catfish)! I ...

I have been looking through that group, to my untrained eye the best fit would be but I don’t know enough about the group to feel confident about that.

ID’s on three very different cats
Hello everyone! Well I’ve got 3 cats I’m hoping to get IDs for, 3 different species- because I’m unsure what order the images I attach will show up in I’m going to have pics of one species per each post and I’ll have 3 of those in total all contained in this one thread. First of all- whiptails! This ...
