Re: How to get Farlowellas in the mood ;)
I hope this might help? I had a pair of F.acus. No breeding activity, until I began dosing my Amazon biotope with JBL Tropol, a good blackwater tonic. It does contain a higher concentration of iodine. (Tadpoles can't turn into frogs without it). They then bred. I lost most of the fry, saving just 7 ...

Re: Sexing of Farlowella vittata.
Thank you for your responses. I now know where to start. I shall start with the 'noses' and work my way down to the genital papillae (naughty bits) as I used to tell my ornithology students.I need to photograph them, and then learn how to put them on here. Here's wishing you A Very Happy New Year ...

Sexing of Farlowella vittata.
I have just ordered some additional Farlowella acus to increase my collection. What did arrive were Farlowella vittata! I now have three excellent specimens. I know that sexing of F.acus is by the odontodes on the rostrum. My new specimens are all 22cm in length, from tip of rostrum to the caudal ...

Re: What cat fish is this?
:-H Just to add a bit of interesting info. They can be very long lived. I had one, 2 1/2 inches long on purchase. It sadly died 14 years later, and measured 11 inches. They are capable of living much longer!

Re: Planiloricaria cryptodon.
^:)^ Hi Shane. I've just had chance to read your article {1st Jan 2002} citing your experience with Planiloricaria cryptodon; it makes interesting reading.
Hope it is of interest to you, here are the details of my main aquarium?

Re: Planiloricaria cryptodon.
^:)^ Thanks to all that have replied. Another interesting fact is they are a 'lower lip or mouth brooder'. Of my five, the 'whiskers' that cover the mouth, not those that extend beyond, three have blackish colouration, the remaining two are pale ivory! There is also a difference in the vent area. An ...

Planiloricaria cryptodon.
I have looked on Shane's World, and I can't find anything relating to this species? So, here goes!
In mid January, I purchased five lovely specimens from my much trusted local dealer.
I have managed to find out a little, but not much about the species. All the usual info, but nothing in-depth?
