Re: Tankmates opinions and suggestions for Tigrinus catfish
Here's a new dilima. The gar and the LSN are together now. I caught the gar with the ornate birchir that is exactly 1cm smaller than the gar, in its mouth. Figuring the LSN was quite bigger than the gar in terms of swallowable, I put them together. The gar holds it's ground and actually follows the ...

At last I have my 200gallon getting ready to go! I was goin gto wait and jump straight to my 400 at a later date but a buddy of mine had an unexpected baby and had to sell his 200 cheap. The whole reason I'm upsizing is so that I can use it got a grow out tank for a zebra shovelnose catfish (not to ...

First off I totally agree with your statement about LFS. They make owning such exotic fish possible. You got a very nice price for that size!

Re: Zebra shovelnose or Tigrinus catfish
3-4 inch specimen appears to be 270 after shipping..... I have to see if I'm prepared to live with myself if it dies a few days after paying that for a fish.

Re: Dwarf goonch
I am guilty of needing to learn how the nicer tests work. I plan on going all out Black Friday shopping at places that sell aquariums and supplies. But I'll also need to do more than learn to read the water test, I'll need to learn how to interpret it and act if there is something wrong.

Re: Zebra shovelnose or Tigrinus catfish
I have a 250 gallon with my filters and powerheads heaters and everything to get water in and get it going today. It's just sitting in my room waiting to be assembled. I already have several tanks ready to go that I believe could house a tigrinus until my new one has time to cycle. But then again I ...

Zebra shovelnose or Tigrinus catfish
I'm am looking for multiple things regarding this species. Has anybody on here successfully kept on of these beauties? And where in the world do I find one for sale? A guy at a neighboring state said he could get me one march 2014 but I'll be ready within the week to setup the new tank. And I'd ...

Re: Dwarf goonch
Ok guys my water test was done at my lfs. Here at home I have basic dip strips but the minute I removed the goonch from the tank I took a water sample to put it in a bag. Green across the board is the phrase the owner of the store told me. I know him well now as I'm a regular customer at his shop ...

Re: Dwarf goonch
I said water test was all green across the board in the other post. My water test read the lowest amounts of both nitrate and nitrite. Neutral ph a little closer to alkaline than acidic, but still classified as neutral. What should I add to the tank if I plan on getting another one. Airstone? I have ...

Re: Goonch died
He was definitely my dream fish. I consider myself lucky just to have had him for the time I did. My room definitely seems empty to me without him in my tank. Such a beautiful predator, it will be difficult to ever replace him. My girlfriend bought me a Florida gar to cheer me up, but he will never ...

Re: Dwarf goonch
His meals had consisted of hikari carnivore pellets every other day for the past two weeks and my last water change was 50% 15 days ago. I cleaned my filter then. Tank mate was a Lima shovelnose which is now in quarantine just in case. There was no hostility between the two that I saw. I ran an ...

Tigrinus cat with bagarius rutilus?
I'm treating myself to a bigger tank and I really have my heart set on a tigrinus cat. I have a 'dwarf goonch' (bagarius rutilus I believe), and a Lima shovelnose cat. Now before any one says anything about the Goonch, it is important to take on a few bits of info. The one I have is as small as they ...

Re: Dwarf goonch
Chicxulub I did a water change today and noticed something different about Diablo. He has started developing black speckles on his fins and they seem to be an orange yellow color. Now it's safe to say that they're the same indeed.

Re: Dwarf goonch
Hmm ill have to try them with him. I have a Lima shovelnose in with him at the moment and he eats night crawlers. I did hold one in front of his face for a few seconds to see if he'd take it. But as I've learned with him after 3-4 days of no food it's easy to sway him onto something new.

Would a picture help to identify him? It was sold as a 'shovel nose catfish''. I was prepared for anything 1-3.5 feet.

Re: New cat ?
The goonch I have was sold to me as a dwarf goonch. It's the smallest one of them all. He only eats what can be swallowed whole at once. I've even seen him turn down 2inch minnows. My only concern for now is max size. From what I've heard the Lima could get a foot? What is the max length of the lima

Re: Dwarf goonch
Haha so you know how I feel too. Wasting all the pellets is frustrating. I tried a week without feeding mine and it still wouldn't take pellets. So it seems live feeders are the cleanest most disired food source.

Re: Dwarf goonch
First time I've measured him since I obtained him almost 2 months ago at 7 inches. He's now 7.5 inches. The biggest difference would have to be how much longer his barbels have gotten.

New cat ?
Hey everyone I'm hoping somebody can answer a question I have that the internet has raised confusion on. I now have added a Lima shovel nose in my tank with my goonch (bagarius rutilus). I want to know how big this guys gunna get. I've read one place said 8-12 another said 21 and this is problematic ...

Girlfriends pleco
Ok so my girlfriend saw an albino bristled nose pleco that looked gold in color and had to have it. We have two fish tanks. My tank for my Goonch, and hers with her two fantail goldfish. I told her this fish wasn't going to eat goldfish flakes and talked her into getting Hikari algae wafers. However ...

Re: Dwarf goonch
I was able to find a light for him today. I drove 1 hour home with it and it was broke so I drove all the way back to replace it. But here's Diablo's "night light". So far not much different but I expect it to take a few nights for him to adjust.
