Re: Super Red x Albino Bristlenose

I see, that's cool. Do you think all of the offspring of the super red x albino cross hold those genes? If i select an offspring and then breed it back to the super red or albino (as you suggested), would that guarantee that i might get a few of the alternate color (ie. is the offspring always a ...

Super Red x Albino Bristlenose

I bred an albino bristlenose with a super red bristlenose and all offspring were regular brown color. If I breed their offspring together (regular x regular) would i have a chance to get albinos and super reds in the offspring or do you think I'll only get regular browns again? I'm hoping both the ...

you should try an angel or something big for the 55. doesn't seem like there is a large noticeable fish in that tank yet.

For a small update, all fish are alive and well, the six L260 have grown a little bit. some are probably over 2". The Albino BN female has grown to 4"+ the pygmy cory is now and adult, and i ended up getting 6 Lemon Tetras a long time ago, and all of them are doing great at 82F. I didn't even know ...

everything looks fine in what you listed, maybe just overfeeding or random aggression from other catfish, though BN males can hold their ground.

Re: possible BN bloat?

a well fed BN male can deflate after a day of not eating while a bloated one will continue to get fatter. so if you see a BN thats getting fat continuously, then try treating for bloat. it's harder to tell on females since they like eating all the time. To help avoid bloat you can try feeding ...

and yes you can put him back into the tank he is harmless.

feed at night he might leave the caves sometimes but its rare. it's important for there to be food when he does.
and get another male if you have plenty of caves and tank room.

Re: possible BN bloat?

yes that's bloat. also lost a male a couple of months ago to it. i think i was feeding too much protein food (for my L260) and the male could not restrain himself.

there are ways to treat bloat, and i tried for one week but he still died.

they look fertile. give them a few days and see if they hatch :)

its odd that the female is in there though, the male should be guarding that opening.

Re: Trying something out of my comfort zone

i recommend farowella catfish. i think most plecos will eat or harass shrimp and shrimplets. snails too, they like eating the slime off snails. If you have a lot of plecos in the tank, the problem will be worse. if you're doing a Sulawesi tank, there are no plecos there anyway.

I meant Nitrogen and other atmospheric gasses too, not just O2. the air isn't mostly O2 anyway.

i lost my breeder female once because she jumped at night through a small gap in the back of my tank. was probably during one of the chases where the male tried to get her into the cave. I say you should cover the tank. I found a seller of reds on AquaBid. just ask a breeder on there (who is selling ...

Re: Air Pumps & PH

tap water usually gives a lower pH rating right out of tap (has some CO2 dissolved) than after you let it sit (ie. in aquarium). once the CO2 leaves the water (air will off-gass the CO2 by dissolving more O2 and other gasses) the pH will normally rise. More buffered/harder water will not see drastic ...

Red Bristlenose Pleco

Hi,
I am looking for a red BN male.
Please let me know if you have them for sale. The males are very easy to sex - they have bristles while females will not.

the patch of skin missing on top of the head of that cichlid could have been from the fish jumping one night and hitting the hood.

either not getting enough to eat, the tank is not cycled properly (what is the ammonia reading?), there is a lack of maintenance going on and the water is getting polluted, stray voltage from equipment, or the most likely culprit - pesticides. I wonder why such plecos are so difficult to keep. assuming it has no diseases or parasites when you get it, it may be the detrimental effects of w/e technique was used to collect the plecos. if the collection was done without stressing the pleco too much, then I bet it's something that is missing ...
