Re: S. petricola or lucipinnis?

Thanks, yes all under 4" TL. It might have been easier if they described these cats as the same species, a giant, and a dwarf version. :)

S. petricola or lucipinnis?

I have a total of 8 adults (2.5-3.5" TL), originally purchased as wild adults, and while I suspect lucipinnis, I don't see the clear "window" at the base of the fins that is mentioned in the article here on PC. So hopefully someone that knows more than I do can clue me in. Birger, Syno321, Richard B ...

Re: Fish Nutrition

WoW, just wow.

I said that I was done, but I find it impossible to ignore such blatent ignorant comments. You aren't helping this hobby by the spreading of misinformation, Clay.

While a rat turd coated in hydrolyzed krill may be appealing to a fish, manufacturers in the tropical fish food ...

Re: Fish Nutrition

Well now that we have come full circle, and the mud slinging has begun, let me just finish up here with a few comments, and I will leave you with the last word.

For the record, I have never once claimed to be an expert on anything. In fact I have gone on record many times over the years stating ...

Re: Fish Nutrition

Again, I have no agenda. I have done my best to assist those who feed homemade mixes, fresh/frozen foods, and even other brands of pellets, for many years. You must have missed all of those conversations.

You are the one that keeps bringing certain brand names (and manufacturers) into this ...

Re: Fish Nutrition

Unlike you Clay, I don't have an agenda. You're the person who's attempting to sell something here, not me. This is your infomercial, not mine.

So the protein in chlorella is better than wheat protein with lysine? The carbohydrates in kelp is different than carbohydrates found in wheat? Now that ...

Re: Fish Nutrition

I don't mean to be rude, so please don't take it that way, but if you had actually done extensive research on fish nutrition, you wouldn't be saying a lot of the things that you have stated in this, and other discussions.

You seem to want to reinvent the wheel, when the wheel has already been ...

Re: Fish Nutrition

Ha-ha-ha-ha!

All this talk over the years about terrestrial based plant matter, and how terrible wheat is as an ingredient and how it has no nutritional value in a fish food - but suddenly now it is the main ingredient in your new food. What a farce!

BTW - now that you have studied a single ...

You have to produce data because YOU are the one who started this thread and made these claims! YOU made the claim, now produce the evidence to back it up.

We are only pointing out your faulty assumptions and blatant promotionalism.

Exactly.

While I suspect that others were going to allow this infomercial to silently scroll off into never-never land, I felt the need to respond to ensure that if/when someone lands here via a search engine one day, that some of the misinformation being posted will have not gone unchallenged, as though it ...

Re: Fish Nutrition

Some useful opinions can be gleaned from some of the papers that you reference. As I said before valid testing needs to be done in aquariums to have real merit.

Opnions? LOL I take that you never bothered to actually read any of those studies. Those feed trials all took place in aquariums, and ...

Re: Fish Nutrition

My problem is with people trying to apply studies done on aquaculture to keeping fish in an aquarium. The goals are simply not the same. The very limited studies done on ornamental fish were also done in ponds. Again the goal is to grow the fish to a salable size as quickly and cheaply as possible ...

Re: Fish Nutrition

For anyone that actually cares at this point, I arrived at this discussion after a long standing member of Planet Catfish directed it to me during a personal discussion on the phone that we were having. I don't go trolling online, for anything. I recognized the name, and said that I would have a ...

Re: Fish Nutrition

Clay, unless you are giving your food away for free, you have a financial motive every time that you start one of these posts on a public forum. Obviously you don't make or sell enough fish food out of your basement to earn an actual living.

I had a heart attack several months ago and after a ...

Re: Fish Nutrition

That is correct Bas. The anti-nutritional matter found in terrestrial based plants such as peas, soybeans, etc are built in defense substances to protect their survival. Animals will generally not eat bitter tasting plants, will pass on them for more tasty succulent plant matter, ensuring their ...

Re: Cory ID

Thanks gents, appreciate the help. Richard, I would expect that it is wild caught as it arrived at a LFS with a group of C. reticulatus, which I'm assuming are not being commercially bred as of yet.

As to collection location, I'm afraid that is a question that I would not be able to answer ...

It is a prudent practice to be sceptical.

zoea .... I don't follow anyone, perhaps re-read that entire comment again & you'll get a better idea of what I actually posted. Re: Fish Nutrition

A few things that should probably be mentioned regarding some of your opinions, zoe.

First, you are right that excess protein is largely just excreted by a herbivore (as well as omnivores), but before those excess amino acids are excreted, they must be deaminated by the liver - which in turn places ...

The only thing that I'm here to promote is sound husbandry ...
