Bathos/liz Watch those cories!!!! I had a few peppered cories (which tolerate lower temperatures) in with my two comets, and one day a comet tried to swallow a cory head first. This resulted in a trip to the LFS, and anaethetic, and then clipping of the (dead) corys spines in order to remove it from ...

Must admit I'm not keen on the UGF. I personally prefer the external type (such as fluvial 1/2/3/404 or eheim) as they are easier to clean, and provide much better filtration. I use a fluval 204 in my 26gal, well overspecified for the job according to the literature, but seems to cope very well. In ...

Johnathan Gravel vacs are a great idea. When you change the water (I do about 30% each week) use the gravel vac to remove the water while cleaning the gravel. they work by drawing water via a syphon effect through the gravel, and are very effective. If you don't do this a great deal of 'mess' will ...

guy Thanks for being a bit more technical - my dad did explain some of this, but I'm only an industrial pharmacist and chemistry is more my line than building construction! Should be more help than I was for Jason. Dad did suggest re-inforcing piers for me, but I'm on the first floor..... the people ...

Jason I too live in a maisonette in london (north west). I have considered getting a larger tank than my current 150 litre one, and thought about the weight issue. My current tank is supported on a built in shelf attached on three sides to the wall (in an alcove) and supported on the outer edge by a ...

oh well, as the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. Makes me wonder why ask for advice in the first place. I have to say I have asked for help a number of times on this site, and the answer has always been prompt, useful and supported with experience. I guess if ...

information on pictus cats
following advice on a previous post in speak easy, does anyone know of a good source of information on the above (web/books etc) other than this site? I saw them at the Lfs the other day, and would like to put some (how many?) in my 55 gal with a 6-7 inch gibbiceps plec. But I have learned to ...
