Re: what is my catfish?
Please completely disregard my first thought of L104, having a closer look I would agree it's a L400.

Re: breeding caves
Well, I thought I'd try the pipe today, and to my suprise my male found it very quickly and spent a good 10mins trying it out, he's been in and out of it in all positions imaginal, and has now settled grasping the roof of the pipe with his little bristles poking out. I thought about the difference ...

breeding caves
May be opening a bit of a debate, but, is there any reason not to use plastic products for breeding caves? I have a black square pipe that's the perfect size for my bristlenose to use as a cave, I have a 1.5m lenght that I can cut to the desired length, and as my terracotta cave has broken and I ...

Re: advice needed on keeping baby bristlenose.
So 4 days have past and the little guys are doing just fine. http://i1327.photobucket.com/albums/u679/kieranvowles/20130213_174131_zps2c0b5f23.jpg I have noticed that some seem to be growing faster than others, is this normal and what size would you recommend they grow to before I put them back in ...

Re: advice needed on keeping baby bristlenose.
Thanks for that Richard, I will leave the substrate in there in that case. I have noticed some young trumpet snails have made it in, I use them in the big tank to keep my substrate fresh, are they going to be a problem in this tank? It's been 24hrs and 1 water change since they moved in and they all ...

Re: advice needed on keeping baby bristlenose.
The substrate is crushed coral straight out of my Malawi tank, as this is where they hatched I thought I'd keep it as close to their birth place as possible, I then read jodilynn post and kinda wish I had left the base bare, makes perfect sense for getting leftovers out. Doh!

Re: advice needed on keeping baby bristlenose.
They are in my malawi tank at the moment, hence why I want to move them before they get eaten, (this has happend before). Will the 12ltr be okay, it's only got a small filter so I know regular water changes will be essential it has a small led light and will have gravel, bog wood and the odd rock ...

Re: Wanted: Common Bristlenose plecs.
Hi Alison, Thank you for your reply, but I'm no longer looking for bristlenose plecs as my existing trio have had babies, the eggs normally get eaten before they hatch but I have seen about 25 swiming around so I'm going to move them to a fry tank. If you have any advice on keeping the fry I would ...

Re: Unknown synodontis
That's what I thought, I've loosely based my approach to caring for these guys on the notata but as they're in a Malawi tank it's not 100% accurate, but most syno's are very accommodating when it comes to fitting in to a tank no matter what it is. I would just like to say as a new user to the world ...

Re: Unknown synodontis
I agree that hybrids are not ideal, I would have much rather have taken home some lovely decora's, (and yes I should have spoted straight away that they were not the real deal epecially at the price I paid) but now I have these little guys, (its not their fault they're hybrids at the end of the day ...

Re: Unknown synodontis
Thanks for the replys, the fish were very active the day they went in the tank but now do most of there work on the night shift. As I bought these as decora's I'm already prepared for 10inch cats although the growth should slow down after about 4-5inches . . .shouldn't it??? As you've said there are ...

Re: Unknown synodontis
Hi Richard,
I found this image whilst trawling the net, it's a multipunctata mixed with a notata, and it seems to be a very close match to my little ones. What do you think?
