Welcome aboard! Gouramis are one of my faves. But they seem to have fallen out of favor locally. Everyone wants cichlids! So I'm glad to see someone else keeping them too!

prolific Hypancistrus zebra
Is there any way to slow down these guys? Just when I've found homes for all the juveniles, I find they've spawned again. It's getting to be a real headache! They're so beautiful I don't want to get rid of them, but I can't handle this much longer.

veggies for plecos
I've been experimenting with different fresh organic veggies for my plecos (clown plecos, rhino pleco, juvenile BNP, and common ottos). Fresh carrots were completely ignored. Fresh cucumbers are mostly ignored. Fresh spinach is a big hit. And boiled broccoli is somewhat of a hit (I boil it so it ...

Out of curiosity, why are all the keepers of this fish listed under Kryptopterus aff. minor instead of Kryptopterus minor?

I'm the only one under Kryptopterus minor.

That's a close match! The Hypoptopoma appears to have odontones which I haven't noticed on my fish. Maybe mine is too young, or maybe mine is female. Thanks for the reply! Here's another pic, showing a top-down view.

Otocinclus? Parotocinclus?
I purchased this at PetSmart in Hamilton, Ohio, USA when I realized it wasn't a common Otocinclus. The peppered pattern was a dead giveaway that this guy was special. It cost $2.29. :-) It was the only one in the tank. The others were common Otocinclus. Now I'm stumped trying to identify it ...

your tank is well planted. it should be a good environment for the fry to grow.

I made a couple of animations too. The first one is at 10 minute intervals. When I realized it was crawling up the glass, I re-setup my camera and took pics at 5 minute intervals but the darn thing crawled out of range of focus after 20 minutes. #outsmarted http://www.badbear.com/SlimeMold1.gif http ...

I just took a photo. The anemone-like one is now completely on the gravel and changing into spider-web shape.

slime mold
Last night I discovered two colonies of slime mold in my 33g hex fish tank. One of them looked like a 2D cobweb spread over a few square inches of the glass where it meets the gravel. The other looked more like a 3D sea anemone no bigger than a cubic inch. In a few hours time, both of them had moved ...

I just inherited a 10yr old striped raphael cat along with an aquarium that once belonged to me. I was going to put him in my pleco/tetra tank while I set up the new old aquarium. But Wikipedia said they can eat small fish at night while they're active. Soooo.... to save my juvenile tetras he's ...

For cave spawning plecos, has anyone studied which geometrical measurements are ultimately the most important in successful cave spawns? is it the size of the opening? the depth of the tunnel? is it critical for the tunnel diameter to remain constant? if the opening starts out small, then expands ...

first-timer, making an introduction & seeking some advice
I'm getting back into fish-keeping after a long time away. I'm amazed by all the changes in the hobby since I was last involved. Back then I was trying to spawn L-47's (mango pleco). So I do have some experience with oddball plecos, but I'm definitely rusty. I also raised clown plecos and rhino ...
