Re: Potatoes as main diet?
I was probably being overcautious. Next time I will just drop it in raw. http://www.flickr.com/photos/22723555@N07/5260682540/in/photostream/ But rather than my bristlenose, it is my lone Garra cambodgeinsis which is attracted to the potato. In fact either they have completely ignored it or have ...

Re: Which part of the world are you from?
I Guess I must have the record for the number (lowest) of posts per year in this forum.. I joined PC in 2004 when I was in Secunderabad. At that time my interest in fish was generic. Even now I don't have any catfish specific tank but I do think they are a lot more fascinating.. Currently I am in ...

Re: What to get for Christmas?
It's the substrate, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong, but laterite is rather coarse - that is, the Corydoras will hurt their barbels and get infected So what to hope for for Chrismas: A few bags of sand - rounded sand, that is - and a day of in order to change your substrate Don't want to digress ...

Re: Potatoes as main diet?
Dear Mats and Richard
Thank you for your prompt response. I have just placed a slice of raw potato-(but placed it in hot water for 2 mins to get rid of germs) in my tank. Will try banana etc at a later stage.

Re: Potatoes as main diet?
I never boil potato or sweet potato for adult fish. If it's fry (or tiny fish such as Otos), then boiling it will make it more easy to bite chunks of. -- Mats Sorry for reviving an old thread but wanted to know if a 1 inch or 1.5 inch bristlenose counts as an adult and whether i can feed them raw ...

Re: What to get for Christmas?
I am just curious to know how old your Cories are?? My cories never seem to live very long in my planted tank with laterite substrate; and i am not able to discern the cause.

Thanks Mats!! I am glad that I know the species name now, though it is perhaps the commonest of the lot..

Re: Pterygoplichthys is everywhere
Although Pterygopichthys seems to have caused some river bank erosion issues in the US and there is some speculation they might cause changes in the aquatic vegetation, they seem a lesser problem worldwide than the four horsemen of the aquatic biodiversity apocalypse: Tilapia, Gambusia, Goldfish ...

The FS guy said that they were Lemon spotted bristlenoses. But I am somehow not convinced. Please let me know which ...

Re: Catfish LFS shouldn't stock?
We should also take into consideration the invasive potential of the catfish? If a species has a reputation for high fecundity and/or ability to colonize new habitat outside its range, then only the albino or long finned varieties of that species should be available at the LFS . This rule would of ...

Re: Florida's plecos
I guess these should either be taken to confined tanks or destroyed, since they are an invasive species- a beautiful one nevertheless.

Hybrids do very well in the wild
Hi Mike Though fancy varieties of aquarium fish have less chance of spreading into the wild ,the same is not true for hybrids ,if they are fertile. The cultivated platies, swordtails and mollies are all hybrids and have spread across the globe. The Tilapia-hybrids have also been devastatingly ...
